Disney's Space Mountain Rehab...First Impression
Posted on - 11/16/2009
After more than a seven month re-hab of the classic attraction "Space Mountain", the ride began its soft opening mode on the 12th, and the feed-back has been very positive! Today I took my first ride and the results are impressive.
Disney's Hall Of Presidents
Posted on - 11/3/2009
After being closed from October 31st 2008 until July 4th 2009, the Hall of Presidents has been opened to showcase our current Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama. Since its opening day, I have attended well over a dozen showings of the upgraded attraction; I am that impressed with the new show. But the closing of the Hall was not just to install a new President; it was also its first major makeover since 1993 after Bill Clinton was elected. As with all announced re-habs of classic Disney attractions, panic rears its ugly head for the Die-hard Disney fans and purists who fear that the flavor and intent of the original will be tampered with or so changed that it destroys what was originally intended.
Buzz Lightyears' Return from Space... A Ticker-Tape Parade
Posted on - 10/5/2009
Walt Disney World celebrated the return of Buzz Lightyear, the intrepid space traveler who spend more than 15 months onboard the International Space Station. He has the distinction of being the longest tenured crew member aboard. He was given a Ticker-Tape Parade down Main St. U.S.A. along with "Buzz" Aldrin, the second man to step foot on the moon and his fellow crewmate during his stay, Astronaut Michael Fincke.
Disney's Bay Lake Towers...First Impressions
Posted on - 9/9/2009
As any DVC (Disney Vacation Club) member will tell you, the opening of a new DVC resort is an exciting prospect indeed. And within a year, three new resorts were opened on property to whet the appetite. The new Animal Kingdom's Kidani Village, the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa and the Bay Lake Towers at Disney's Contemporary Resort. We decided to stay at Bay Lake Towers first, since the Magic Kingdom is the heart of the Disney experience.
Marceline Missouri... Walt Disney's Blueprint
Posted on - 8/10/2009
I spend almost 3 to 4 days a week at Walt Disney World. I cannot even begin to give a total count of the days. But one thing is for sure; the Magic Kingdom is my Favorite Park, hands-down. For me it embodies the complete Walt Disney. For this park contains his visions, perceptions and experiences he gleaned from the four years he lived there as a boy. Years later, his Wife Lillian commented that "Walt remembered Marceline Missouri more vividly than anything else in his childhood, perhaps more vividly than any place in his entire lifetime"! To understand how this small Midwestern town help shaped the life of this future animator and visionary, we will take a trip back in time.
American Idol Winner Kris Allen Celebrates At Disney's Hollywood Studios
Posted on - 6/2/2009
After fending off challenger Adam Lambert, the newest "American Idol" winner for season eight, 23-year-old Kris Allen from Conway Arkansas continued his dream by celebrating his victory in the place where dreams come true, Walt Disney World. In the most fitting setting, here at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the "American Idol Experience" attraction based on the phenomenal hit show, Kris was honored by thousands of fans and the media. In winning the coveted title of America's "Idol" Kris won the hearts of all who came to wish him well.
Disney's Hollywood Studios 20th Anniversary...Hosted By WDWCelebrations
Posted on - 5/4/2009
On May 1st, 1989 Disney opened its brand-new park, "Disney-MGM Studios" with celebrity guest and much fanfare. Today, May 1st 2009, Disney reached another milestone with the 20th anniversary of the parks opening. The now renamed "Disney's Hollywood Studios" opened today an hour earlier with a 8:00am rope-drop ceremony where Rilous J. Carter, Vice President of Hollywood Studios made the opening remarks and thanked all attendees for coming out to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Disney's New "Tren-D" Specialty Shop
Posted on - 4/14/2009
Walt Disney was never a man to rest on his laurels. He always strove for fresh ideas and entertainment; he even detested making sequels, even if they were his most popular works. Walt's teachings are still followed today as the new specialty shop; "Tren-D" has its grand opening this Friday, April 10, 2009. It has been in soft-opening mode for about 2 weeks now, and guest reaction to this shop where you can purchase "one-of-a-kind" items not found anywhere else on property has been very positive!
Epcot's International Flower And Garden Festival
Posted on - 3/31/2009
A sure of sign of spring is the return of EPCOT's International Flower and Garden Festival. The theme this year is "Celebrate Springtime" and the festival will sport more than 70 topiaries along with perennial favorites like the "Flower Power" concerts performing at the American Gardens theatre, Minnie's Magnificent Butterfly Garden, the World Showcase Pavilion exhibits, not to mention all the gardening workshops and sessions from top gardening experts and from Disney's own gardening pros.
Dining Around The World...The Kona Cafe
Posted on - 3/19/2009
Sometimes choosing a restaurant at Walt Disney World can be a challenge. Do we want to have a character breakfast, lunch or dinner? Or would a dinner show be the ticket. There is the gamut of international fares at EPCOT; or would casual or shorts and T-shirt eatery suit you? There is also the size of the restaurants. There are the large dining rooms such as Mama Melrose's or the Crystal Palace down to the smaller, like the Plaza Restaurant. Many times when we decide to eat at the World, the size of the restaurant will dictate where we'll eat that day.
The "American Idol Experience" At Disney's Hollywood Studios
Posted on - 2/16/2009
On February 12, Walt Disney revealed to the world its newest mega attraction, "The American Idol Experience", based on the cult hit TV show "American Idol" In one of the largest press events for an attraction, media from all over the country and Canada got a first look at the new guest-interactive show. The attraction is just slightly different from the TV show, due to time limits and guest schedules, for example there are no "Train Wreck" singers during the performances. All of the contestants are pooled from guests at the park, and go through a multi-step audition process before being chosen to perform on the show. Contestants must be 14 years old and up to be eligible.
Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade...Quick Review
Posted on - 1/26/2009
I had the wonderful opportunity to observe the new replacement parade for the "Disney Dreams Come True Parade" here at the Magic Kingdom this Friday. The newest offering is called "Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade" and judging from the crowd reaction, it is going to be a real hit. This new bright and bouncy parade will have you clapping your hands and tapping your toes as the Disney Dancers kick up their heels and perform to the catchy tune "Celebrate a Dream Come True".
Walt Disney World And Christmas...Perfect Together
Posted on - 1/21/2009
It's hard to believe, but another Christmas holiday season has come and gone. So why an article on the Holidays after the fact? Well studies show that many begin planning their holiday season immediately after the one just passed and I cannot think of a better time to sing the praises of staying at Walt Disney World for them. Even this early, thousands of families are planning on what to do for the holidays. Do we have a traditional stay-at-home Christmas, or spend them with the relatives, have the family over or travel to the countless venues around the country or abroad that celebrate this magical time of the year. Each and every one will guarantee many memories and good times with family and friends. But for us, the one place that has Christmas and the holidays covered in every way, shape or form is the Walt Disney World Resort.
Mousefest 2008...The Best One Yet!
Posted on - 1/5/2009
It's hard to believe but another year has gone by and Christmas is again upon us. And with the season also comes Mousefest 2008! Time just flies by so fast. We eagerly await the coming of Mousefest, but it goes by too quickly. It's sad to say good-by to friends who all share the common love of Disney, where everyone feels like family, but I know I will see them again next year. For me, this is my 4th Mousefest, I only wish I could have attended in the beginning, but whether you're a veteran or a newbie, the same feeling of belonging is there, and I believe this is what makes Mousefest so special. I think, at least for me, this is the best Mousefest yet. Why? Well several things. First there have been a few big changes this year. For one, our much-loved "Mousefest 101" which had us taking over the Tomorrowland Noodle Station (Usually the same time the Castle Show was on!) was now in the Contemporary Resort Nutcracker Ballrooms 2 & 3. A vast improvement, everyone could hear with the PA system and no competing with the Magic Kingdom noise.
Walt Disney World Moms Panel...A New Way To Plan You Disney Vacation
Posted on - 12/9/2008
For anyone who has not yet heard about the Walt Disney World Moms Panel, it is one of the most innovative and new ways for anyone who has never been to Walt Disney World or who has a list of questions about the parks and services to get that information on a peer to peer basis. This new addition to the Disney website, www.disneyworldmoms.com consists of a panel of real Moms (And Dads) chosen for their knowledge and experience by Disney to help others in planning their dream Disney vacation. There are countless websites, books, blogs, podcasts and everything in-between offering advice and tips, but the best place of course is Disney's own Website and vacation planning experts who can literally plan your entire vacation from soup to nuts. But the Mom's panel is made up of real parents, Moms and Dads who have gleaned their knowledge of Disney from planning their own vacations and those of friends and family, and have personally been to Disney, some countless times who can answer questions with their "Personal Opinions and Advice".
Jiminy's Salute To The "Main Street Electrical Parade"...A Review
Posted on - 11/25/2008
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are on a time machine; your destination is the summer of 1972 at Disneyland. Coming down Main St. USA is the "Main Street Electrical Parade". You hear the familiar opening line from the vocoder: "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds. 'The Main Street Electrical Parade'!"
Disney's New "T-Rex" Restaurant... A Review
Posted on - 10/22/2008
When I first heard that Disney and Landry's restaurants was planning a new "T-Rex" restaurant in downtown Disney, I immediately thought of a hit movie and its sequel. Most sequels never measure up to the original. In the case of Landry's hit in the Animal Kingdom, the "Yak and Yeti" eatery, this new addition would have to be something special. I can tell you that it is even more than I could have imagined. The new restaurant is themed in the same meticulous detail as the Rainforest Cafe and the Yak and Yeti, but in here you will find Dinosaurs, lots of them! The detail and colors of the six themed rooms is as much a feast for the eyes and ears as the food is for the stomach.
Walt Disney's Grand Opening Of Its "Health And Wellness Center"
Posted on - 10/16/2008
Meg Crofton, Walt Disney World President began the opening ceremonies of the new State-of-the-Art Health and Wellness Center with the Motto: "One Simple step towards Wellness" and that was the theme here as this 6 million dollar facility was showcased to the press and hundreds of Disney Cast Members, who had just returned from a 3 mile walk around World Showcase. This beautiful Center began construction in January of this year and it will provide for eligible Cast Members the latest in Primary Care, and the big advantage of this center is its address: 960 Backstage Lane, right behind EPCOT, which makes it convenient for Cast Members to take advantage of its "One Stop Shop" for medical care.
WDW Celebrations...A New Disney Website
Posted on - 10/14/2008
All any person has to do to find information on Disney is to use their favorite search engine, and in seconds you are rewarded with literally hundreds of fan sites, chat rooms, forums and of course Disney's official web sites. All of these sites will offer almost anything you need to know about the parks, dining, cruising, vacation planning etc. But a brand-new Disney site has come along that is totally different from the norm. The WDWCelebrations (WWW.WDWcelebrations.com) is a site dedicated to "Unity in the Community". It does so by being the center hub for fan gatherings at Walt Disney World. You will not find the usual "Disney Information" here, but what you will find are scheduled "Fan Meets" arraigned and planned by the core team members of this exciting new site.
Hollywood Studio's Feature Presentation..."The Great Movie Ride"
Posted on - 9/29/2008
If you love the movies like I do, there is no better place to get your "fix" than at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This theme park celebrates Hollywood during its Golden era from the '30's and 40's. From its fantastic detailed streets like Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards from that age to attractions like "Catastrophe Canyon" and thrilling stunt shows as "Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular" this is a movie fanatic's dream. But for me, the Main Attraction here at the Studios is the "Great Movie Ride".
New At Innovations East... "Stormstruck" Interactive Weather Attraction
Posted on - 8/30/2008
Where else could you find the latest interactive attraction dealing with severe weather around the country and how to prepare for it than at Future World at EPCOT. Now at Innovations East, guests can witness a home as it is pitted against one of nature's most destructive storms, a hurricane.
Walt Disney World Honors Michael Phelps...USA's Hero!
Posted on - 8/29/2008
American loves its Heroes and what better way to honor its newest champion, Michael Phelps, winner of eight gold medals at a single Olympics, a new record, than a parade down Main St. U.S.A. at the Magic Kingdom. Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney World held out its Magical arms to embrace this young man who broke former Olympic champion swimmer Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at a single Olympic in 1972. Michael has won a total of 16 career Olympic medals, 14 of them gold.
Walt Disney World And The Weather
Posted on - 8/27/2008
After tropical storm Fay finally left central Florida and I saw the destruction it left in its wake, I started thinking back about the many people who visit Walt Disney World and how they seem not to take our weather here very seriously. The moniker "Sunshine State" is well earned for Florida. Here we have an abundant amount of Sun, mild winters and beautiful nights. I can ride my bike twelve months a year, and for the most part we are rarely home, because of all the outdoor activities (Like going to Walt Disney World!) you can enjoy. But on the other side of the coin, the payment for all of this beautiful weather is the fact that being in a tropical setting, we also are the target for hurricanes, tropical storms and of course thunderstorms. The thunderstorms are the most common violent weather we have here and these are what I would like to talk about.
Hollywood Studio's "Brown Derby"
Posted on - 8/13/2008
Located between the Starring Rolls Cafe and the Animation courtyard, Disney's Brown Derby restaurant is an exact replica of the famous eatery in Los Angeles during the Golden age of Hollywood. It was a beacon for the Hollywood elite and gave birth to the famous "Cobb Salad" which was actually invented by Robert Cobb, one of the owners of the restaurant and has been the highlight of the menu here.
The Magic Kingdom...The True Heart Of Disney
Posted on - 7/24/2008
Everybody has their favorites at Walt Disney World. Whether it's an attraction, a show, a favorite restaurant or character, there is always something that's near and dear to the heart.
Preview Of The New "Prince Caspian Attraction" At The Hollywood Studios
Posted on - 6/29/2008
Since the highly successful Disney movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, adapted from C.S. Lewis' series of fantasy books entitled "The Chronicles of Narnia" the question was not if a sequel would be made, but when. The Movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian opened on May 16th, 2008. As with the first entry, Disney's Hollywood Studios had the attraction "The making of Narnia" on Mickey Ave, giving guests a sampling of the movie and its sets.
Dining Around The World...The New "Wave" Restaurant
Posted on - 6/26/2008
Walt Disney World is in a constant state of flux. The reason of course is to keep the parks fresh and exciting for the guests. Whether it's an attraction that's rehabbed or refurbished, or replaced entirely with a brand-new bit of magic, or a favorite restaurant receiving the same treatment, it's for the enjoyment of the guests. When we heard that the "Concourse Steakhouse" was to be replaced with a new eatery on the first floor, we were sad because the Steakhouse was a favorite of ours. But not to worry, as usual Disney's new "Wave" is much improved, in the atmosphere and noise level of the Concourse Steakhouse.
Walt Disney World...To Stay Or Not To Stay On Property?
Posted on - 6/16/2008
The one question I receive most by friends and family is this..."Is it better to stay at a Disney Resort or stay at a nearby Motel?" My immediate answer is to stay on property! But that answer will depend on a variety of factors, how many in your party, are you traveling with small children, older folks in the group or do you want to see other attractions besides Walt Disney World? Many people come just to stay at the resorts and not even poke their heads into the parks; or just to play golf, tennis and relax. Since the majority of guests come for the water parks, theme parks and all the Disney magic they can absorb in a short time, staying on property in the long run, will save money and the most important commodity; time.
Lou Mongello's "Audio Guide" To Main St. USA... A Review
Posted on - 5/28/2008
To most guests visiting Walt Disney World, it represents the premier place to vacation and be a "Kid" again. With its attractions, shows, restaurants and fireworks, it is the most visited spot in the world. But the "World" is so much more. It is a place of history, stories, secrets and trivia; but most of all it is a place of Details. These details are what makes Disney's four theme parks so special and different than other venues. To the true Disney lover, the details are what it's all about. But the majority of guests are here for a limited time and most are running around trying to see and do everything in that short time; these details are never seen or appreciated. It's the classic case of not seeing the forest through the trees!
Mickey News Attends "Toy Story Mania" Press Event
Posted on - 5/15/2008
Last week it was Disney Cast members who got a chance to sample the new "Toy Story Mania" at the Hollywood Studios. This past weekend, it was Pass holders and Disney Vacation Club members who tried to get a high score on those midway games. Today, Disney offered the opportunity for the media to step up and give it their best shot! With all the fanfare Disney is famous for, members of the press, broadcast and print were invited to ride and learn about the newest attraction.
Disney's "Toy Story Mania" First Ride Review
Posted on - 5/10/2008
The alarm woke me up at 7am, and in a short time, I got dressed and was out the door headed for Disney's Hollywood Studios. Why so early? Today was the annual pass holder's first chance to ride the brand-new attraction, Toy Story Mania. Housed in the building on Mickey Ave that used to be the home of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Play it" this new addition to Disney's arsenal of attractions is just about ready for the guests. Last week the cast members got a sneak peek and this weekend, annual pass holders and DVC members get their chance to experience it.
Disney's Animal Kingdom 10th Anniversity "A Wild Decade" Event
Posted on - 4/26/2008
On April 22nd, 1998 Earth Day, Disney opened its new Animal Kingdom park, the company's most ambitious and expensive project to date. The park took 10 years to plan and was headed up by Joe Rohde the parks head designer and executive designer and senior vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering. Joe and his team worked through countless plans and concepts until the final version came to be the park today. Today the Animal Kingdom celebrates its 10th "Wild" year as the World's premier Theme park and animal refuge.
Dining Around The World..."Mickey's Backyard BBQ"
Posted on - 4/14/2008
Next to being in the parks, there is nothing my wife and I enjoy I enjoy more than dining at Walt Disney World. With its enormous selection of food and diversity of themed restaurants, one does not have to travel far for a special night or day out. However, even though Walt Disney World is the premiere vacation spot in the world and most people just want to kick back and relax in comfy clothes, a certain amount of decorum must be maintained in most of the eateries. But if you want to really feel like you're at "Home" and just want to whoop it up, clap and dance and eat with your fingers than "Mickey's Backyard BBQ" is just what the doctor ordered.
Main Street's New Attraction...Crystal Arts Store "Glassblowing Demonstration"
Posted on - 3/17/2008
I cannot tell you how much time I have spent at the Crystal Arts Store here on Main St. watching in fascination as the "Glassblowers" sitting in front of their torches create before your eyes, Disney characters, glasses, vases and crystal items from just rods of glass. Many others seem to think so too as sometimes as many as 20 guests gather around to see what else these "Artisans" will produce. As if by magic (Perfect word here at Disney) they make glass Mickey's, Minnie's, Pluto's and more; in fact anything can be made into a beautiful keepsake here at the Crystal Arts Store.
Disney Tid-Bits...Update On Germany's Train Display
Posted on - 3/10/2008
A few weeks ago, I reported that the train display at the Germany Pavilion was removed and most of the tracks were gone. After speaking to several cast members and one of the managers, I was informed that the trains were to be removed permanently and a different attraction would be in its stead.
Disney's ESPN Weekend at the Hollywood Studios
Posted on - 3/9/2008
Disney's fifth ESPN affair was this weekend and as usual it was a sports fans nirvana. ESPN is the ABC owned sports information network where anything and everything about sports can be gleaned. The format is very similar to the "Super soap" weekends here at the Studios in November. There are live telecasts from the Sorcerer's Hat Stage, Motorcades with your favorite sports figures, Question and Answer sessions with the Athletes, live chats with many of your favorite sportscaster personalities and stars. Among the many popular formats was the "Stump the Schwab" All-Star Game where you can test your sports knowledge with the acknowledged King of sports trivia, Howie Schwab. In addition behind the "Rock N Rollercoaster" there was the ESPN sports Zone. Here in this interactive hands on "Sports Zone", your whole family can try its hand at experiencing Soccer, Golf, Baseball, shoot some baskets and more.
Disney's Hollywood Studios "Block Party Bash" Review...
Posted on - 3/9/2008
The "Block Party Bash" was originally introduced in May of 2005 to coincide with Disneyland's 50th Birthday, the "Happiest Homecoming on Earth" This Hybrid parade and stage show traveled along Disneyland's California Adventures Performance Corridor. This was unlike most of Disney's parades in that the guests are invited to participate in some of the dancing and the music used is upbeat dance tunes, such as "Shout, the Macarena, YMCA, and Stayin' Alive. The show closed in Disneyland in January of 2008 and replaced the "Stars and Motorcars Parade" here at the Hollywood Studios in Florida.
Victoria And Albert's..."No Kids Allowed"
Posted on - 1/14/2008
By now almost everyone has heard or read the decision to ban kids 10 years and younger from the Disney AAA five diamond restaurant "Victoria and Albert's" in the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World. My wife and I applaud this move and will explain our reasons why we do. Now before everyone thinks we hate children, please read on. This subject has nothing to do with liking or disliking kids. The notion of barring young kids from restaurants has been bandied about for years, always with the fear of offending parents and grandparents. However, Disney's decision is based on solid business sense and fair play. How?
Disney's Dining Plan...Changes For 2008
Posted on - 1/6/2008
One of the best deals ever to come from the House of Mouse is the Disney Dining Plan. With this plan, you can save a substantial amount of money while enjoying some of the best table service restaurants Disney has on property. This plan will allow many people to enjoy these restaurants at a savings of 40 percent off instead of paying on the go. Over 100 restaurants subscribe to the plan and it gives peace of mind knowing that your meals are paid for in advance.
December...The Month For Mousefest
Posted on - 12/20/2007
Mousefest is much like your Holiday dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas; it takes so long to plan and make, but in a short time, the meal is gone! Therefore, it is for Mousefest 2007. Here and gone, but the memories will be with us forever. All the Waiting for the start, all the running around attending the meets, seeing old friends and new, and of course the big event, the Mega Mouse Meet makes it all worth it! Already the plans are in the works for Mousefest 2008 and I cannot wait for next year!
Spaceship Earth...Soft Opening Review
Posted on - 12/14/2007
I have heard that Disney was having occasional soft openings of Spaceship Earth for a few weeks, but every time we arrived, we either just missed it or the attraction was closed for the day. We were very lucky at Mousefest when we saw a line gathering, so we tried once more. Bingo, after only waiting an hour and a half, the doors opened and the crowds eagerly entered.
Mickey News Reviews The "New" Tusker House Buffet
Posted on - 12/13/2007
I love to eat at buffets and when Disney announced that the Tusker House was being changed over from counter-service to a Buffet and the addition of Donald's Safari Breakfast (Which replaced the Donald's Breakfastosaurus character buffet at Dinoland's restaurantosaurus) in the morning, I was chomping at the bit to try the new addition to the Animal Kingdom. This week with reservations in hand, my wife and I arrived about 40mins earlier than expected so I could take a few pictures before we ate.
Mickey News Previews The New "Yak And Yeti" Restaurant
Posted on - 11/21/2007
Since it's opening on April 22, 1998, Disney's Animal Kingdom has offered guests thrilling rides, a safari trek second to none, Broadway-style shows and exotic animals. However, the one thing it did not offer was a fine table-service restaurant. All it had were counter-service. There is the Landry's owned Rainforest Cafe, a fine restaurant at the entrance of the Animal Kingdom, but it was not "In the Park" so to speak. Guests had to go through the turnstiles and get their hand stamped to return to the park. However, on Wednesday the 14 that all changed as the anxiously anticipated "Yak and Yeti" restaurant made it's debut. After many months of construction the eatery opened, but on a quiet note.
Dining Around The World...Epcot's "Chefs De France"
Posted on - 11/5/2007
French food is considered the most refined and stylish form of cuisine. There are many regions in the country which influence the variety of dishes and the ingredients in them to make French cuisine one of the worlds most popular. Here at the "Chefs de France" one can savor the tastes of French cooking right here at Walt Disney World.
Disney's Cruise Line... Magic On The High Seas
Posted on - 10/16/2007
My wife and I decided to finally take a Disney Cruise for our anniversary. Although this was our first Disney Cruise, we are veteran cruisers, being Captain's Club members at a major cruise line since 1993. We have cruised every year since, from Hawaii to Bermuda, the Caribbean, and Mexico. We have been all over and know just what a great cruise should be. This article is not about our vacation but about the Disney Cruise line.
American Heritage Gallery..."National Treasures Display"
Posted on - 10/1/2007
The much talked about "National Treasures Display" is now open at the American Adventure Pavilion in EPCOT. In this historic gallery, the accomplishments and achievements of some of America's most famous figures in history are showcased. On view are some of their personal possessions and inventions. In the display cases, you can see Abraham Lincoln's original stovepipe hat, pictures, and books. There are mementoes of Rosa Parks and Jackie Robinson, both whom made great strides in the civil-rights movement.
Disney Update...Tempo Grab And Go And "Wave Restaurant"
Posted on - 9/26/2007
While in the Magic Kingdom last week, I decided to check up on the new "Tempo Grab and Go" on the fourth floor of the Contemporary Resort. The new counter service eatery is up and running and will be in place for at least a year until the new restaurant, yet unnamed replaces the Concourse Steak House. That in addition to the expansion of the Buena Vista Gift store will make the fourth floor a little hectic for a while.
Mickey News Rides The "New" Haunted Mansion
Posted on - 9/14/2007
Finally, the waiting is over and millions of Haunted Mansion lovers like myself can see the results of many months of refurbishments the Imagineers bestowed on the classic attraction! Like many fans of Pirates who believed that, the original "Flavor" would be lost, fear not! Not only did the Imagineers outdo themselves, they did it even better than Pirates.
Disney Honors The Crew Of Space Shuttle Endeavor
Posted on - 9/13/2007
Here at Walt Disney World it is "NASA Space Day" This September 10 Disney hosts the first official appearance of the crew of Space Shuttle Mission STS-118 after their successful return from space last month. Not only is Walt Disney honoring the heroes of the Endeavor, they are also recognizing Barbara Morgan, teacher-turned astronaut and all educators who provide positive and inspiring role models for our children.
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique... Finally Open!
Posted on - 9/12/2007
The long-awaited new branch of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Cinderella's Castle is finally open and ready to transform your little girl into a Princess of her dreams. The Boutique opened this past Monday for Cast members and their families only and will have its grand opening for guests on Monday the 10. For the past few days I have been watching the new Boutique and its gleeful guests and I must honestly say, there was not a time that the line was not out the door as kids eagerly awaited their turn at becoming a Disney Princess.
Disney Update... Epcot's "Fountainview Cafe" Changes To Ice Cream Parlor
Posted on - 8/27/2007
For all those folks wondering what happened to the Fountain View Cafe, that famous Espresso and Bakery shop next to the "Fountain of Nations" who's jets of water are synchronized with music, it has finally re-opened as an Ice Cream Parlor, hosted by Edy's Ice cream. Gone are the decadent desserts and treats, also among the missing are the cappuccinos and espressos.
Dining Around The World..."The Plaza Restaurant"
Posted on - 8/8/2007
The Plaza Restaurant is one of the Magic Kingdom's best "All-around" eateries. In this, I mean it is the easiest to just walk up, get a table (Usually around lunch) and what my wife and I refer to as a "Hybrid" the best combination of table service, and counter-service venues. For just a little more than you would pay for counter-service meals, you can enjoy some well-prepared and hearty sandwiches, a fantastic Chicken strawberry salad, ice cream, floats and mouth-watering desserts all in a themed turn-of-the century atmosphere. Unless it is super crowded, one can usually secure a table around lunch with little wait, dinnertime, again if the crowds are not overwhelming you can get in without the usual reservations that most of the table-service restaurants require.
Dining Around The World - Norway's "Akershus Royal Banquet Hall"
Posted on - 7/25/2007
We love to dine at EPCOT. Where else can one sample the fares of eleven different countries all in one place? Here we have many well-known menus, Chinese, French, Italian and of course good old American fast food. However, there are a few eateries here one does not see often in the USA. Case in point is Norway. How many of use have really sampled Norwegian cuisine?

For all the fans of the classic 50s' car in front of the Sci-Fi Dine-in which has been missing since January for refurbishment, it is now back in it's rightful place, ready for all those photos and a place to wait for your name to be called to eat.
Mickey News Covers Walt Disney World's "Naturalization Ceremony"
Posted on - 7/6/2007
Dreams and Dreamers, they are the tenets that are the backbone of these great United States. Without either, our country would not have evolved into the beacon of hope, freedom, and opportunity that it is today. For in this country, dreamers are encouraged to dream and to make those dreams come true. Here we are unfettered in our pursuit of religious freedom, speech, right of assembly, and right to privacy in our homes and businesses. We do not worry about our doors being kicked down in the middle of the night; to be taken away, never to be seen again for some "crime" against the government.
Dining Around The World...L'originale Alfredo Di Roma
Posted on - 6/18/2007
Since dining at Walt Disney World is one of my favorite pastimes next to going to the parks, I have decided to do a series of reviews on all of the wonderful restaurants we have enjoyed here at the World. My wife and I dine here at the World so often; I sometimes forget what my own kitchen looks like. We are always try to eat someplace different, but old favorites rear their head and we end up doing a repeat meal. Case in point is the Alfredo di Roma Restaurant in World Showcase in the Italian Pavilion. My wife loves Italian and between Tony's Town Square in the Magic Kingdom, Mama Melrose at the Studios and Alfredo's, we make many repeat trips to each.
Broadway At Walt Disney World
Posted on - 5/30/2007
Most people when they plan their trip to Walt Disney World concentrate on all the great rides and parades to be seen and plan to eat at any of their World-class restaurants. However, many do not realize that the World has some of the best live stage shows anywhere, including the great "White Way" Here you can take in comedy, song, acrobatics, thrills and chills and some warm-hearted family adventures all within the confines of Walt Disney's four theme parks. In addition, the best news is that all of this entertainment comes with the price of a park ticket. Therefore, for anyone planning a trip to the World for the first time or anyone who have not had an opportunity to enjoy these gems, we will go park to park with a quick run-down of what is in store!
Disney Update...The "Yak And Yeti" Restaurant
Posted on - 5/16/2007
Coming soon in late September to Disney's Animal Kingdom is the new "Yak and Yeti" restaurant. This will be the first Table Service restaurant inside the park. One of the amenities that the Animal Kingdom lacked was a table service restaurant. Although the Rainforest Cafe was located at the entrance to the park, it still was not "In the Park"
Walt Disney World Update...The "Kings Gallery"
Posted on - 4/30/2007
As reported on 3/8/07 the "Bibiddi-Bobbitti Boutique" will have another shop in Cinderella's Castle replacing the "King's Gallery" in late July or August. The King's Gallery was to move into the "Virtual Magic Kingdom" on Main St. and they in turn were to move to "Mickey's Toontown."
A Reminder...Epcot's International Flower & Garden Festival

Throughout the park, you will see beautiful floral displays, experience themed weekends, and interactive demonstrations from renowned horticulturists, photographers and authors. Every night you will enjoy free "Flower Power" concerts from the groups of the 60's and 70's. The Festival is so popular that it expanding to 60 days. More than enough time to "Smell the Roses"
Disney Tid-Bits... China's "Lotus Blossom Cafe" Re-Opening

After many weeks of refurbishment, the China Pavilion's famous "Lotus Blossom Cafe" is finally ready for its guests with a brand new interior, bright and fresh and a new menu (Well, according to General Manager Stephen Fan, 70% new!), all expertly and lovingly prepared by Head Chef Wei Zhon Xing. Mr. Wei is also the Head Chef for the "Nine Dragons" table service restaurant at the Pavilion. (See the menu picture for details!)
Disney Tid-Bits... Disney's MGM Studios

If anyone wandering around the Studios and wonders where the vintage 1950's classic car in front of the Sci-Fi Dine-in went that we all love to sit in and get our picture taken or the classic LaSalle that is perpetually parked on Sunset Boulevard in front of Villains Vogue store has gone, fear not.
Disney Tid-Bits... The New "Joy Of Tea" Cart In China
Posted on - 3/27/2007
Just a little bit of good news for "Tea Lovers". Everyone knows that China is renowned for their teas, hot and cold. Now when you travel the "World" at EPCOT, stop by the new "Joy of Tea" cart in front of the China Pavilion. Since it's opening March 12th, you no longer have to walk to the Lotus Blossom Café nor the Nine Dragons Restaurant for that cup of authentic Chinese Tea. A sampling of the many offerings include: Strawberry Oolong Tea Slush, Mango Green Tea Slush, and also on the menu are teas with a little more "Kick"; Peach Oolong Tea Schnapps Slush and of course regular green teas, bottled teas and water.
Arribas Brothers New Home
Posted on - 3/12/2007
Finally after more than a month of renovations, the Arribas Brothers new Digs on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom are up and running. And, according to the two Glass Artisans I spoke to today, it was well worth the wait. The new shop, adjacent to the old one in the Bakery on Main St. is brighter, larger, has much more storage space than the old place and the traffic flow is much lighter. There is also room for larger and brighter display cases (See photos) and in the rear of the new shop, there are two stores down the alleyway that are not in use, and there are plans to expand into those unused stores. As of now, it is in the planning stage, but I am told is should be ready by late July.
Walt Disney World Update
Posted on - 3/8/2007
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Make-over Princess Room located in the World of Disney at Downtown Disney, which has been giving little girls the chance to be a real live Disney Princesses by a "Fairy-Godmother-in-Training", will now have a new Boutique in the Magic Kingdom. Since April 5th, 2006 it was the only place to go for that "Magical Makeover". But plans are in the works for a Boutique to be located in the "Kings Gallery Shop" now operating in Cinderella's Castle. What better place to put a Boutique for future Princesses than in the World's most Famous Fairytale Castle!
Dining Around The World...Germany

There is nothing quite like eating at Walt Disney World. With its huge variety of restaurants and menus, you would be hard-pressed for even the finickiest eater not able to please his palette. Any reader of my articles knows that my wife and I are regular diners here at Disney. One of our favorite places is the Biergarten in Germany at EPCOT. This cozy and warm setting is themed like, what else but an authentic German Pub and Restaurant.

Disney's Carousel Of Progress...Walt's Favorite!
Posted on - 1/23/2007
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress is easily one of the Magic Kingdom's favorite attractions. In fact it is the longest running stage show in the history of theater in the United States, seen by millions of people! But how many people know that this attraction was one of Walt's personal favorites and that he helped develop it from beginning to end. And this Carousel of Progress had it's roots in the late 1950's when Walt decided to expand Main St. in Disneyland with two additional districts: "International Street" and "Edison Square". In the Edison Square district, guests would see a show to be hosted by an "electro-mechanical" man called "Wilbur K. Watt" The show was to highlight the advances of Electricity from the late 1880's to the present and future, all thanks to the amazing advances Thomas Edison made through electricity. After each act of the show, the guests would walk to the next act.
Disney's "Monsters Inc Comedy Club Show"...Soft Opening Review
Posted on - 1/12/2007
Well, with two new attractions already showing for the guests, "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" and "Finding Nemo, the Musical" the third in the trilogy of new shows; "Monsters Inc, Comedy Club Show" is not quite ready for the guests. I have heard that there were a few "Soft-Opening" shows, but they were few and far between. I have been in the Magic Kingdom almost daily trying to catch a show and today I hit pay dirt. At 2:00pm the doors opened and myself and maybe 100 other lucky people were led in to the queue line. As we waited, the area Manager kept reminding us that this was just a test rehearsal and there might be some glitches. We were also warned several times; NO video, NO pictures, NO flash photography and NO sound recording!
Mousefest 2006...It's Just Not Long Enough!
Posted on - 12/18/2006
Mousefest 2006 is now over. I cannot believe how quickly it came and went. It just proves that time does fly when you are having fun! But before I tell my Mousefest saga, let me quickly explain to the uninformed exactly what Mousefest is. In a nutshell, Mousefest is a gathering of Disney Fans and lovers for about a week in December to meet and share their love of anything Disney. It is a gathering which has just snowballed since the first official Mousefest in 2003.
Dining At Disney...Liberty Tree Tavern
Posted on - 12/11/2006
Anyone who has read any of my articles knows that next to going to the parks, I love to eat at the parks! My wife and I have made a goal of eating at every table and counter-service restaurant on property. And believe me; we have made good headway in that direction. One of the biggest problems that we have found in our endeavor is that trying to eat at a different place each time is difficult because there are some restaurants we enjoy so much; we end up eating in them time and time again!
Disney's Salute To Christmas...The Candlelight Processional
Posted on - 11/27/2006
There is no time of the year quite like the Christmas season. It's at this time of the year it seems the whole world holds its collective breath and reflects upon itself. Even during World War I, the Germans and British armies stopped fighting during the season of 1914, met between the trenches and exchanged gifts, stories and played games. It's the time for families to gather together and be thankful for each other, exchange stories, sing Christmas Carols and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is indeed, the most joyful and magical time of the year!
Finding Nemo - The Musical...A Review
Posted on - 11/20/2006
Just a few weeks after the opening of the new attraction, "The Seas, With Nemo and Friends", the new sister attraction "Finding Nemo, the Musical" has finally begun what a cast member described as "Dress Rehearsals" for the guests, at the former Tarzan Rocks theater in the Wild at the Animal Kingdom. This attraction is totally different than Nemo and Friends. This is the first major musical produced by Disney Creative Entertainment for Walt Disney World. The former Tarzan Rocks Theater was outfitted for the new show, but retains much of the original trappings. The runway is still used from the Tarzan show. On both sides of the stage are huge bubbles where you can see projections during the show.
"The Disneylands That Never Were"...A Book Review
Posted on - 11/7/2006
I cannot think of anything more enjoyable than spending my entire day at any of the four Disney parks here in Florida. But running a close second is my love of Disney trivia and History, especially the trivia pertaining to the Mickey Mouse shorts and anything about Walt Disney and his life, and the Walt Disney Company. My library is filled with Walt Disney biographies and anything else I can get my hands onto. So you can imagine my surprise and delight when I was introduced to this new book entitled "THE DISNEYLANDS THAT NEVER WERE".
Disneyland Versus Disneyworld...No Way!
Posted on - 10/30/2006
Since my wife and I now live almost right next to Walt Disney World, we did not think it could get any better. But the more we attended the parks, the more we realized that the one thing to make the magic complete would be a trip to the park that Walt walked in! So, on our anniversary we treated ourselves and made the pilgrimage to the Holy Grail of Disney parks, Disneyland! Now right off the bat, this is not going to be an article about "Our trip to Disneyland", or even worse "Which park is better". What I would like to convey to the readers is the major and subtle differences we discovered on this, the trip to the Park that started it all!
The Seas, With Nemo And Friends Attraction At Epcot
Posted on - 10/14/2006
Finally after being in the planning stages for over three and a-half years and an actual build time of a little over six months, the new attraction at EPCOT's "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" is ready for the guests. This new attraction is housed in the other half of the Sea's Exhibit which was totally gutted and outfitted with this new adventure. The outside has an all new wall with reliefs of Nemo and his friends and a beautiful rock outcropping with water that splashes all around the rocks just as if the waves of the ocean were crashing against the shore and three animatronic seagulls who are squawking and turning their heads. A really nice entrance scene!
Epcot's "Living With The Land" Boat Ride Review
Posted on - 10/9/2006
After being closed for several weeks for a supposed "retrofit", the Living with the Land boat ride is back again. Before the ride closed, I had spoken to several cast members on just what was being done to the ride, and all had stated that the reason was to eliminate the Boat ride's "Tour Guides" and to speed up the queue lines to the attraction. There is no more fastpass either.
New Magic At The Castle..."Let's Have A Ball" Interactive Show
Posted on - 10/6/2006
There is new magic for the little ones behind Cinderella's Castle. Starting this Monday, a new interactive show began which will allow the kids to experience how the Lords and Ladies of Cinderella's court get together and dance, play games and to "Live Happily ever after". All kids are invited to learn how to do the Limbo and Simon Sez and other entertaining games with "Lady Lucienda" and the Party Helpers.
"Dream Along With Mickey" Show Review
Posted on - 10/2/2006
For the first time since May the 5th, 2005 a new show has replaced "Cinderellabration" on the Castle forecourt in the Magic Kingdom. The new show, "DREAM ALONG WITH MICKEY" debuted here this Saturday, one day before the official opening of the year-long celebration at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in California. "THE YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS". This will be an exciting year as Disney will be giving away millions of "Dreams" to all it's guests. Cast Members will at random pick families and guests to receive gifts from Dream mouse ears, pin and lanyard sets, VIP passes to a Disney press event, shopping sprees, well you get the idea! Probably the most wished-for dream will be a one-night stay in the royal bedchamber in Cinderella's castle at Walt Disney World and an equally magical stay at a Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel, overlooking Disneyland and the California Adventure theme parks. There will be a million dreams handed out. After all, Disney is where all dreams come true!
Walt Disney World After Labor Day...Whew!
Posted on - 9/26/2006
Walt Disney World is a living, breathing entity. Just enter it's realm and you can feel the life, the pulse and the magic. All the attractions and the lights, the people, cast members and even the fireworks add to this feeling of "Life". And much like the oceans, it has it's own tides, eddies and currents, all which move, not with the phases of the moon, but with the time of the seasons and holidays.
Finally! The "Liberty Belle" Sets Sail Again!
Posted on - 9/19/2006
I believe whole-heartily in the phrase "Being there at the right time in the right place!". Today my wife and I decided to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom (Which for us is almost every other day!). Getting there early we headed straight to my favorite attraction, the "Haunted Mansion". As we passed by the Liberty Square Riverboat dock, Lo and behold to our delight, they were opening the gates and loading guests on what was an earlier than expected grand opening of the "Liberty Belle" riverboat attraction which has been in dry-dock for over a year. This attraction was supposed to re-open on September 23rd. After speaking to several cast members and crew, the repairs went ahead faster and Disney decided to open the Grand old Girl today.
Disney's Underground Magic: "The Utilidors"
Posted on - 9/13/2006
If there is one thing that Disney has it's Magic. No matter where you look, no matter where you go, it's in abundance! Everywhere you can see, and places you can't see (more on that later) it's there. But how many people know of an unseen magical place that WDW guests cannot see and most do not even know exists. Well, this magical place is underneath the Magic Kingdom, and the internal Walt Disney World phone book uses the term "Tunnels", although most Cast Members refer to the underground complex as the "Utilidors", short for Utility Corridor. But what is the reason for these Utilidors and how did they come about!
Working The Parks - Part Five: Animal Kingdom
Posted on - 9/5/2006
We have finally reached the last park in the series. Disney's "Animal Kingdom" is the largest park area wise, at over 500 acres, its big enough for all three other parks to fit inside with no problem! But do no think that this will be a walking nightmare, because although big, most of the area is the "Kilimanjaro Safaris" and the area around "Rafiki's Planet Watch", both which we'll explore later. Animal Kingdom is Disney's last park to be built here in Central Florida. Construction started in August of 1995 and opened on Earth Day on April 22nd, 1998. From the beginning, the Tree of Life was it's centerpiece, but since the opening of "Expedition Everest" April 7th this year, Mt. "Everest" is now the reigning King!
Working The Parks - Part Four: Epcot
Posted on - 8/22/2006
Here we are in the fourth of the series on how to work the parks and see and do all you can on a limited time schedule. As a reminder, these guides are not meant to have you go rushing around like a chicken with it's head cut off, trying to stuff everything into one day. It is not going to happen, especially if there are young children involved. WDW just offers too much to see and do in any of the four parks to be able to get everything in such a short time. But with proper planning and with these guides, you will be able to see and do all of your favorites with time to spare. Of course, if you go in the busy season or on a holiday, you may not get everything in despite this guide and smart planning.
Working The Parks:Part Three - Disney's MGM Studios
Posted on - 8/16/2006
Next in the series of how to get the most out of Walt Disney World on a time budget is Disney's MGM Studios, often called just the "Studios". This is my second favorite park. You will find that the "Studios" does not have as many ride attractions as the Magic Kingdom, but it does have the best collection of attraction "shows" of all the parks. Here you will not need as many Fastpasses as in the Kingdom, but there is a ton of things to see and do and hopefully this article will help you get to see most of them in a short time.
Working The Parks-Part Two: The Magic Kingdom
Posted on - 8/9/2006
The Magic Kingdom, this is my favorite park! Here is the second in the series on how to work the parks when on a limited time schedule. You have to read the first installment on the very simple and basic plan I have devised, and in the following articles I will list the attractions that will require a fastpass, the attractions that do not offer, or need fastpass and point out the "In-betweens" with a brief synopsis of each, so now armed in advanced with this information you will be able to plan your WDW trip and the whole family will be able to see their favorite attractions or shows. Remember, this "guide" is for the newcomers to WDW and folks making their second trip.
Working The Parks: Part One
Posted on - 8/1/2006
I have been thinking of writing these series of articles for the longest time. Articles with tips and tricks on how to get the most out of WDW's four theme parks when you only have a short time to visit. What prompted me to do this is my intense love of Disney. If you have been reading my articles you know that my wife and I are blessed with living twenty minutes from the Happiest Place on Earth, we are living any Disney lovers dream! I spend so much time at the parks, I can tell you where even the coldest water fountains are! I have heard so many times people saying that we never had time to see that attraction or we never got to go here, or we don't have time now to do this. And I see so many people huddled around the park maps, trying to figure out where or what to do next. When you live here, you work the parks in a totally different venue. So in the following articles , I hope to help newcomers and maybe some veterans on how to see the most in the least time.
The Good Old Days And Cartoons: Where Did They Go?
Posted on - 7/11/2006
I have to admit it. I live in the past, or I should say, I wish I were in the past. Not all the time, but most of the time. I love nostalgia and lament so many things that have passed by. When I think of my childhood and all the things the family did, and all the fun I had playing with my friends, knowing that I'll never see these times again sort of brings a whimsical tear to my eye. Now don't get me wrong, I know that progress is inevitable and all progress not bad. In fact if I didn't have my computer or other electronic marvels of today, I would be lost! But there are certain things I personally believe that progress has ruined, or at least taken most of the fun and enjoyment out of.
Pirates Of The Caribbean "Soft Opening" Review
Posted on - 7/7/2006
As Mickey Mouse would say, "GOSH". That and many other adjectives would describe the newly renovated Pirates of the Caribbean in the Magic Kingdom. After many months of retrofitting the attraction to be in line with the new Disney movie "Dead Man's Chest" premiering on July 7th, it is now completed. However, this 4th of July holiday weekend guests found that Disney decided to have an "unannounced" soft opening, 6 full days before the grand opening.
Disney's 4th Of July Fireworks Salute To America
Posted on - 7/6/2006
It is 10:30pm, I have just returned from the Magic Kingdom. Today and Tomorrow, Walt Disney World, famous for it's fireworks displays and shows has replaced WISHES, it's normal day ending fireworks extravaganza for a special show to salute our nations independence. I have been looking forward to seeing just how Disney could top Wishes, and as Walt said himself "If you can dream it, you can do it", Disney certainly did it! I have never witnessed a more beautiful and moving pyrotechnic display in my life. I have see literally hundreds of fireworks spectacles in my life, and this one tops them all. Even the Macy's fireworks display in New York seemed to pale in comparison.
Disney's College Program And The Animation Academy Perfect Together!
Posted on - 7/3/2006
Most fans of Walt Disney know that he was a visionary, a man who had the uncanny ability to know what the public wanted. Always looking for new and innovative ways to improve his animation, he was a risk-taker, ignoring the naysayer's and skeptics and followed his dream to the end. Although he had some failures, he was usually proven right in the end. One just has to look at the Disney Company today!. Walt also believed in the future and the future is the youth of this great country.
Disney's New "Play And Dine" At MGM Studios
Posted on - 6/30/2006
Walt Disney World is the premier vacation spot in the World. It is famous for so many things it's hard to mention them all! Their famous attractions and rides are right on top of the list, not to mention the Broadway-style shows and of course the best fireworks display to be found anywhere. But if you ask the kids what their favorite Disney experience is more than half will say the Character meet and greets and the Character Dining Meals. Here the kids get to meet and greet their favorite Disney characters and get autographs and have pictures taken with their favorite stars! Some of our favorite Character Dining restaurants are "Chef Mickey's" in Disney's Contemporary Hotel or "Goofy's Liberate your appetite Dinner" at the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom.
MGM's "Writer's Stop" The Perfect Place For Coffee
Posted on - 6/26/2006
I am a firm believer in that the simple pleasures in life are the ones most remembered and cherished. Just sitting out on a warm summer night looking at the stars, or reading a good book on a rainy day. One of the simpler pleasures in life that I really enjoy is relaxing with a nice hot cup of coffee either alone or with friends, planning the day ahead or discussing the one passed. Coffee is one of my weaknesses, and my wife is always telling me I drink to much of the stuff! She is probably right, but no matter how hot or cold it is outside, I really look forward to that cup of liquid gold.
Animal Kingdom's "Flights Of Wonder"
Posted on - 6/12/2006
When you mention the name of Disney's largest Theme Park, Animal Kingdom, most of the uninitiated think of a large zoo and few attractions. There is nothing further from the truth. Yes, there are multitudes of animals from all over the world, fish, birds and insects all residing in their natural habitat and there are many attractions, shows and great rides. Disney's claim of "NAHTAZU" is also correct. The image of a traditional zoo in most people's minds are cages of animals displayed for public viewing. In Animal Kingdom, the animals are free-roaming on huge acreages designed and maintained to their natural habitat in their native countries. Even the cages the bats are kept in are huge areas with trees and natural formations, covered with high wire mesh, nothing resembling cages of a traditional zoo. Any animal lover will enjoy seeing their favorite animals roaming free and unencumbered, doing what comes natural to each!
For The Taste Of Italy... Tony's Town Square Restaurant
Posted on - 5/30/2006
America has been a melting pot of cultures and people since its beginnings. From all over the globe people have settled here in hopes of a new life and freedom. And all the varied customs and cuisines from their native lands came alone with them. This is a fortunate blessing for food lovers! For in this country you can literally sample food from every corner of the globe and then some. Throughout much of the 20th century however, the perennial favorite has been Italian fare. From pasta to pastries, bread and everything in-between, Italian food is one of the most versatile and varied of them all. For example, pasta gravy (That's right, GRAVY, my Mom always told me the old time Italians called their sauce gravy) can be made in so many different ways that it boggles the mind. It can be plain, with meat (any meat), fish (any fish), eggs, or vegetables, cheese, spiced up with wine, the list goes on forever. And all this is just the different tastes of the sauce (Gravy).
MGM's Flatbread Grill...Your Burger And Fries Alternative
Posted on - 5/24/2006
There is no question about it, Walt Disney World is the most magical place in the world! There is so much to see and do in all four theme parks that even if you stayed more than a month, you still would not see and do all that is offered. So that's why the majority of the guests who come here are on a limited time schedule, want to see everything they can. But all that magic and excitement and running to and fro sure builds up an appetite! So most folks will plan a fine meal at any of the award-winning Disney table service restaurants later in the evening when things slow up a little and everyone just wants to rest a spell!
Your Personal Park Guide... "Pal Mickey"
Posted on - 5/17/2006
It will be a year in August since I have owned my own Pal Mickey. And I can tell you this; as a diehard Disney lover and Mickey Mouse fan, this is one of the most entertaining, informative and enjoyable items that Disney has ever come out with! When I first encountered Pal Mickey in the Magic Kingdom, I first thought that this was just another plush Mickey toy for the kids. (Although, my wife and I have at least five Mickeys in the bedroom!) I could not have been more wrong! Pal Mickey is for all ages, and I have seen him with as many adults as with kids. Disney has a winner on their hands, for Pal Mickey will enhance and create a more personalized experience for any guest navigating through the parks. And he's just plain fun to be with!
For Budding Artists: The Magic Of Disney Animation
Posted on - 5/11/2006
Everyone loves to draw or doodle. Come on now, admit it, how many times have you waited on the phone wading thought those endless menus, or waiting for a person to speak, you picked up a pencil and started drawing your favorite cartoon character or person, or just doodling anything on your mind just to pass the time away. I am surprised that I graduated from school considering how many hours I frittered away just drawing instead of paying attention to class! I loved to draw Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck and after a while, I did what I thought was a great job on my favorite Mouse. But, after much research and attending the "Magic of Disney Animation" classes, I discovered that no matter how gifted you are as an artist, or how well you could draw or what schools of art you attended, your drawings of Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, or whatever favorite Disney character you drew, unless you were schooled in the Disney way of animation, you were WRONG!
Walt Disney World Monorail-Walt's "Other" Railroad
Posted on - 5/9/2006
Consider these statistics: Since it's inauguration in 1971, this transportation system has carried over 1 billion passengers, averages over 150,000 passengers daily and yearly carries over 50 million people. And if you add all the miles the system traveled since it's beginning, it would total over 25 round trips to the moon!
For Food Lovers - The Disney Dining Plan
Posted on - 5/3/2006
There is nothing like sitting down to a great meal, or getting that snack that just hits the spot! My wife and I love nothing more to do than to eat. Let me rephrase that, go out to eat. Whether it's a national chain of restaurants or a small diner, or a Mom and Pop eatery, we have been there and done that! Our favorite place to eat, now that we are only twenty minutes from it, is Walt Disney World. This is a food connoisseur's nirvana! There is a food for every taste and palate. Everything from the tastes of eleven countries in World Showcase in EPCOT to meatloaf in the 50's Prime Time Cafe, to a simple burger or chicken wrap in any of the many counter-services to the most opulent, soul satisfying seven course meal in Victoria and Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
The Walt Disney World Railroad-Walt's Dream Continues!
Posted on - 4/25/2006
When you go to the Magic Kingdom in any of the renowned Walt Disney parks worldwide, the very first thing you will see is the "Main St. Station", which is the starting off point for the Walt Disney World Railroad. This beautiful and detailed train is strictly Americana and is the icing on the cake for Main St. USA. Nothing quite says "Small town America" than a huffing and puffing, whistle blowing steam train pulling into the station! Here, you can get on and travel back to a time when train travel was more romantic and soul soothing, and yes, more civilized than any high-speed metroliner of today. There is something about the chuffing and clanging of that engine and the whistling blowing it's mournful cry that cannot be duplicated today in any form of modern travel. But how did Walt Disney decide to use this treasure of transportation nostalgia in his theme parks? For the answer, we must travel back to Walt's childhood, in Marceline Missouri, circa 1906.
Animal Kingdom's Other "Everest"
Posted on - 4/21/2006
How many of us on a trip to Walt Disney World can't stop talking about what their favorite attraction is and how they can not wait to ride it! If it's in EPCOT, "Soarin" comes to mind or "Mission Space". On the way to the Magic Kingdom, its "Space Mountain" or "Big Thunder Mountain". And of course, in the Animal Kingdom it's the new kid on the block, "Everest". All of these attractions and many more which are well known and highly touted are of course "Magical" and downright exciting! But let's not gloss over the lesser known and spoken about attractions that are just as magical and exciting.
Walt Disney World- The Best Bargain on Earth! Part Four

Animal Kingdom. This is Disney's largest and newest park in Central Florida. Construction started in August of 1995 and opened April 22nd, 1998, on Earth day. At over 500 acres, all of Disney's three other theme parks could fit inside with no problem! This is one of Disney's most ambitious and expensive projects. It is a combination of Wildlife refuge, Asian jungle, African village, Dinosaur park and of course, ride attractions! Disney makes the claim that the Animal Kingdom is "NAHTAZU", and they are right, at least not in the conventional sense one thinks of a zoo. All the animals are free-roaming in their natural habitat, in the jungle, the Savannah and the plains of Africa and Asia. This is another masterpiece of Imagineering, because even though the animals look like they have the run of the place, clever barriers keep them where they belong.
Walt Disney World- The Best Bargain on Earth! Part Three
Posted on - 4/11/2006
In this series on Walt Disney World being the best value for your money, we will now explore the third theme park, EPCOT. This park is vastly different from Walt's original concept. Walt, who coined the acronym, EPCOT Stood for
"EXPERIMANTAL PROTOTYPE COMMUNITY OF TOMMOROW", was to be an acutal working city of the future. However, due to his untimely death, he could not see his dream fulfilled. Instead EPCOT is essentially a living World's Fair, much like the one in New York, but on a much grander scale. Walt loved the idea of progress and this park is a showcase of new ideas, and inventions for the future and a place to learn about the World around us. One half of the park is World Showcase, were eleven countries are represented, with the United States "American Adventure", anchoring the community.
The Ambassadors Of Main St: The Dapper Dans
Posted on - 4/6/2006
For as long as I can remember going down Main St. in the Magic Kingdom, I would always encounter a group of four gentlemen performing a Barbershop Quartet routine in front of the Main St. Bakery. I could not help think how perfect they fit in, with this turn-of-the century setting that Walt Disney had envisioned. With period costumes, and a curious instrument they used (More on that later!), made complete what anyone would expect on a street in Americana, circa 1910. Walt's Main St. is small town America, and the Atmosphere is complete with the Dapper Dans!

This is the second in a series of four articles about the tremendous value of a Walt Disney World theme park ticket. In the first, I covered the Magic Kingdom and all of the added "Perks", so to speak that come with the price of admission. Many People believe that the price is a little to high, but what these articles will show is that for the money, you are getting the best entertainment package around. When Walt Disney first envisioned Disneyland, he wanted a place for the kids and parents to have a great time together, and do so in a place that was spotless and safe, and of course, full of attractions and shows for all. Walt always believed that money was no object when it came to his plans, because quality will always win out, and the people will see this and always return. With this in mind, let's cover Disney's MGM Studios Theme park.

Growing up as a kid, I was exposed at an early age on the fine art of saving a buck, or finding a bargain. My dad knew every trick of the trade on the subject. He wasn't cheap, but as my mother put it, "Very Thrifty!" I can remember hearing his voice, "Turn out the lights when you leave the room", Or the world famous "Shut the door, we're not heating the whole neighborhood!". I can now boldly say I know a good deal when I see it!
The Happiest Place on Earth?

It was one of those beautiful central Florida days shaping up. The tempature was up to 78 degrees, soft breeze blowing and no humidity to speak of. I looked out at my grass, growing like a jungle primeval, and looked at the honey-do list, growing even faster! Right then and there I decided the heck with the house, lets go to my favorite place in the world, Walt Disney World. My wife agreed, and so after a quick 20 minute trip down the road, we arrived at the Magic Kingdom.

Just mention the name Mickey mouse to a fan or just anyone on the street and immediately visions and perceptions well up in the listeners mind. To some, he represents innocence and fun of a bygone era, to others, corporate America, and to a lesser extent, a money-making gimmick. Most people do not realize that the name or picture of Mickey mouse is the most recognized icon in the world, topped only by the American flag! One would have to go literally to the ends of the earth to find someone who never has heard of the mouse.
