| My name is Tina and i was a Cast Member in the Custodial Department for 3 years. I have been privileged to access many areas in that tenure, one of which I’d like to share:
The Haunted Mansion.
While on a Graveyard assignment to The Haunted Mansion, I was 'dusting' the cobwebs at the loading area for the Doombuggies. I was on a ladder with a surgical type mouth covering, shower cap, and safety goggles. My assignment was to remove all the old ‘cobwebs’.
After completing this very tedious and meticulous task, guess what!! The Decorating Department came in and blew NEW DUST and COBWEBS right onto the frame work strands!! I never even thought that would happen.
I was so dismayed at the thought of 'undoing' my hard work! Then I remembered..." We'll take care of the outside, let the ghosts take care of the inside" ...Walt himself. (Back in 1969)
My position was in the early 90's, so I am sure I am not the first person who had seen their work immediately 'undone' (the whole point of the task was to remove cobwebs that had accumulated too much dust from the air conditioning ducts that prevented them from billowing just right. I think back now and figure if I were a ghost I’d want cobwebs there, so I went on to the next assignment of polishing the silverware in the dining room/ballroom.
Now, I hope everyone notices that there is a ghost who lays under the table and his bottle of wine is near a chair and has left some spilled on the floor. Being earnest in my endeavor, I tried to clean that 'wine stain' from the parquet floor... uh-oh think again... it's evidence of spooks engaging in the same earthly delights as we mortals... did any one know that HM cast members sing their names to the crow's nest (the top most tower of the roof) that houses the weather vane...tidbit... did y'all know the Ghosts are dining on Spode tableware?? Expensive stuff... and the ghostly granny in her chair near the fire place is reading Quoth theRaven from Edgar Allen Poe?? Some fortunate HM Cast Members get to have their picture taken with her, but of course it remains in the property of the Company.
Vacuumed the floating candle hallway in the HM, and Disney Gallery Security locks you in and watches you from the viewing window. (this is for loss prevention and made me feel better about dusting precious items, such as the chandeliers and alarmed art work... all of the tasks I was assigned reminded me that Disneyland should always be treated as the Crown Jewel that it is .... so the next time you feel sloppy with your popcorn or soda, please try to 'hold it 'til you get to the can' I am very fond of Disneyland ... most kids went to Church on Sunday... we went to the Big D... I know it sound obsessive.. fiendish even, so I implore everyone to treat Disneyland the way you do when visiting a dear friend's home... with the utmost care and respect to the Show and the hard working Cast Members...because they are really knocking themselves out for you!! (Even when it doesn't make sense to clean the old cobwebs to make ready for new ones!!)
