| I have another one to tell you, you'll hardly believe it, but I’ll tell you just the same. In the early years of the Park, my grandpa was working there, and Mr. Disney would roam about sometimes unescorted, and the guests always sought his autograph. So Mr. Disney in his infinite wisdom, would prepare little scraps of autographs in his pocket just to get moving, pass them out and be gone. Well, my grandpa saw that he dropped a paper after fleeing the scene once and picked up the paper and put it in his pocket. When he got home and my grandma emptied his pockets to ready the laundry she found it, and threw it away!!
She told my grandpa, when he announced he would be working there in late June, she was less than thrilled. “You mean we moved all the way from Chicago so you could work at a kiddie park?" “I can get my job back at Wrigley if we leave before the end of summer!” In that day NO ONE ever expected it to last! He retired from the Company with the attendance record in 1986 NEVER A SICK DAY, EVER! He started at the Main Gate taking tickets, then onto Trains, and the assorted Attractions. Back then it was men on the Attractions and women in the shops, except where charming young girls were preferable like the Storybook Land Canal Boats; leaving as a Supervisor to the Warehouse. HAS HE GOT SOME ITEMS TO TELL!!
