On Sunday I had the pleasure of seeing ”Snow White" The New Musical at Disneyland the Happiest Place on Earth. I had reservations since I was an Annual Pass holder. We had to line up at least half an hour before show time. Once in the Theatre, the audience awed over the wonderful set. The stage and Theatre were made to look like the audience was in an enchanted forest. On the audiences’ right had side was a gothic themed Turret were the Evil Queen stood most of the show. The Turret also had gothic gargoyles with red glowing eyes.
Then the show starts and out comes the Magic Mirror. The highlight of the show. It appears that the mirror is broken but comes together to make a face. The Mirror is voiced by Patrick Stewart of Star Trek, but no worries, you will not envision Captain Picard from the Enterprise when you hear the mirror speak. Stewart was the perfect voice for the mirror. The mirror introduces the evil queen and how she despises her stepdaughter and how she bosses her around. Then the music starts and you see all these different people in animal costumes coming one by one on stage and do a little dance, then the Dwarfs come in thru the audience singing Heigh Ho and then snow white singing comes on while the dwarfs are walking behind the set going to their "house." After that we see Snow white and she sings her signature song "I’m wishing" by the well. Then the prince comes in at the end of the song and they have their moment until the queen comes on and orders her hunter to kill snow white, he then comes out of the castle or the "Turret" and tries to kill Snow White but cannot bring himself to do it and tell her to run away from the queen, that the queen ordered him to kill Snow White.
Snow white starts running and a few of the trees on stage turn evil looking until she falls upon the cottage of the dwarfs. She goes in and its a mess as she states "Children must live here, lots of children." As she goes into her "Whistle while you work" song. The cottage on the stage does turn so we see the front and the inside of the cottage. The dwarfs come in again singing "Heigh Ho" and looks in the windows and notice that their home is cleaned. They come in and find snow white cooking Dinner. The whole scene were she is in her bed is cut from the show. She tells them she is the Princess Snow White and is trying to hide from The Evil Queen. Which they say in turn that she must stay there as long as she does the cooking and cleaning.
Then the dwarfs do a great song that was cut in the movie. The name escapes me but they sing about cleaning up and then bubbles come down to the audience from above. After the number is over, the go to the table and gobble up all the food. Now they do their "Silly Song" number which is just great. They dance and use their dishes as banging instruments. They all go to sleep after that.
Now we see the queen doing her "Mirror, Mirror on the wall" bit and finds out that Snow White is alive and well and lives in a cottage in the forest. The audience now sees her going into her dudgeon one of the Turret walls open up revealing the dudgeon. She does her spell and with lightening and fog effect turns into the wicked old hag.
The fog fills the entire stage and we see the queen on her little boat going across the stage. She finds herself with snow white in the cottage were the animals start attacking the queen trying to tell snow white, that the old woman is the evil queen but of course Snow does not get it. And she takes a bright red glowing apple and eats it as she fall down on the ground.
The animals start running to get the dwarfs, the dwarfs come and chase the queen back up the Turret, while the prince comes in and watches, then there is a flash lightening and one of the towers moves a little bit as if falling apart the evil queen falls.
Snow White comes in on a coffin bed wearing her signature blue, yellow and red dress, she was in her rags dress throughout the play. The animals and dwarfs grieve while the Prince kisses snow white and begins to leave. Then we see Snow White Wake up and they do their final number which consists of a few different songs that were heard throughout the Musical. Then the cast bows, except the queen. Disney probably did this because the Queen just died and wanted it to remain that way. Then fake pink rose pedals fall on the audience.
