Expedition Everest

We just got back fro WDW and were speaking to some cast members about Expedition Everest. Construction on this is well under way, most of the track is down now, and the main mountain has most of its framework in place. It's being built at the rivers edge to the left of where the Tarzan Rocks show currently is, just over a bridge into Asia.

It was described to us as a cross between the Matterhorn Bobsleds (at Disneyland) and Big Thunder Mountain. There will be no loops or inversions, but there will be a drop of around 80ft and will reach speeds of 80mph.

It begins by traveling through a monastery on top of a small peak, and then continues on a rickety, dangerous looking bridge over a gorge. This bridge will be longer than the length of the train, and will have no guard rails. It's also a long way down, so hold onto them hats and glasses! This looks very scary in the concept art on display at the site.

Once over this, the train enters a cave in Mount Everest itself where it begins its peaceful ride. However it is soon attacked by a pack of Yetis who force the train to go backwards at speed into a siding. The train then goes forwards again down a different switch of track and finally escapes from the mountain. It's this forwards / backwards switching of track that is the final section yet to be completed.

It should be open in around 18 months.
