Incredibles - A Review

"The Incredibles" is...well...INCREDIBLE! Unlike most movies, if you have seen the trailer, you may have a basic idea of what the movie is about but you haven't seen the movie. Oh sure, you know that Mr. Incredible is retired and hates his desk job but you don't know why. You also don't know any of the fantastic twists and turns that will delight you through out this movie. The plot is brilliant, fun and action packed. "Boundin", a short feature which precedes the movie is delightful! I sat in with 3 audiences yesterday and people, including me, just couldn't resist applauding when the credits for "Boundin" began to roll. You will also get your first peek at the newest Disney/Pixar movie called "Cars". That will be out in theatres next November. It looks great! Does anyone else think the cars look suspiciously like the ones on Disneyland's Autopia???

I went to see the very first showing of The Incredibles at 11:30am yesterday with 4 teenage sons in tow. I was thinking the theatre would be only moderately full. Even though it was an in-service day, which means there is no school, moms and dads work, right? NOPE! The auditorium was packed full with primarily families with young children. Our cinemaplex was nearly sold out for every single showing of The Incredibles opening day. I found this amazing since it was a terribly cold day and roads were icy, slick and treacherous! Obviously, nothing stops an Alaskan who wants to see a Pixar film on opening day!!!

I also watched the film a second time last night. Of course the auditorium was packed but this time with a wider variety of people. There were lots of teens along with families and couples out for a date. On a personal note, I sat with my husband just home from Baghdad for 2 weeks of R&R. My best friend stood up and announced to the audience that we have an Operation Iraqi Soldier in our midst. The audience made him stand and applauded him. That was pretty darned cool!

So, how does "The Incredibles" rate????

As an adult: I loved the movie. My adult friends, teen sons, husband and Marine son all loved it. Some of the comments as the audience exited the theatre were, "Awesome!", "Wonderful!", "Fun Flick!". One woman was on her cell phone telling a friend she had to see "The Incredibles" this weekend. My adult son and husband were discussing the movie this morning and talking about how good it was. My son wants to see it again today!

As a mom: I also attended the film with 2 young, princess loving little girls ages 4 and 6. There were a handful of startling action scenes that did scare them briefly but they got over it quickly and had smiles on their faces and laughed loudly through most of the movie. There are no bad words. After the movie, a bunch of us discussed how The Incredibles not only appealed to young children but to every one of all ages as well.

"The Incredibles" is a must see...if you haven't already seen it. But if the rest of the US is like here in Alaska, everyone and their cousin will have seen it at least once by the end of opening weekend. I gave this an audience approval rating of 98 just because I hate to give out 100s. :-)

And by the way, Elastigirl ROCKS!
