National Treasure is a fun romp! I enjoyed it thoroughly. My teen age sons and all my friends really enjoyed it and the 2 audience I sat with were totally captivated and even applauded at the end of the film.
We've learned from the theatrical trailers that Benjamin Franklin Gates, played by Nicholas Cage, is a treasure protector. We also know that the map to this particular treasure is on the back of the Declaration of Independence and that someone else, someone BAD, is trying to steal the document as well as get their hands on the treasure. And we, the audience, are taken on a wonderful ride filled with action, suspense, adventure, problem solving and delightful humor primarily provided by Gates' sidekick, Riley Poole, played by Justin Bartha. Rounding out the cast is, Diane Kruger, Sean Bean, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel and Christopher Plummer. I felt the entire cast did an excellent job. This wasn't just a Nicholas Cage film.
What a fun film! As an adult: well, I loved it. I had as much fun watching it the second time as the first. As a mom, I think this film will appeal to any child who enjoys action/adventure films. It is much less violent and scary than Raiders of the Lost Ark. So if your children enjoy Indiana Jones, they will enjoy this movie. I will give the audience response a 98 out of 100. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
