A lifelong search for magical memories...

Hello, I am Scott Short one of the new writers here at Mickey News. I grew up in upstate New York, the adopted son of two teachers. My grandparents spent the winter months in a retirement community near Arcadia, FL and it was our family tradition to spend our Christmas break with them. Being the good parents that they are, my parents knew a good thing when they saw it – Disney World. That meant an important part of our yearly trip was a visit to the Magic Kingdom. Since “growing up” I’ve gone on 4 Disney cruises and visited the parks a number of times with my wife.

I have many great Disney memories, however not all of them are related to the parks. I can remember going to see Disney-on-Ice as a child and my first watch, it had blue bands and Mickey Mouse was on the face, the hour and minute hands were actually his gloved hands. I also have a plastic talking Mickey Mouse, that if you pull the string his head moves and he talks. (“Mousketeers have big ears!”) Another Disney treasure that I’ve had as long as I can remember is a porcelain Goofy; he’s about 6 inches tall, he’s moved all over the country with me.

My wife is a Mickey Mouse fanatic, and I mean that in a good way, she has Mickey snow globes, socks, shirts, pants, shoes, jewelry, toothbrushes, and the list goes on. I’ve got a pretty good collection of my own too. Our headboard even has Mickey icons in it. We like the mouse in our house so much that we named one of our cats Mickey; and just like his namesake he’s bigger than normal. We often go store hopping just to see what new Disney items are available, and are always planning our next great Disney vacation (are there any that aren’t great). If there was ever a “House of Mouse” I’d say this was it.

Does this qualify me to write a column? Well, I’d say so! Granted, I may not have the latest gossip or park news, but the other writers here cover that stuff, what I DO have though, is news of great Disney items and events coming to your area – and that’s news you can use!

Well that’s an earful – until next time, I’m Scott Short
