My computer has ears?!?

Seasons Greetings!

I was hoping to get another article written in time for a Christmas release but was unsure what to write about. It came to me yesterday when I was at CompUSA.

For some time now I have been seeing this Disney Computer in ads and online but have not had a chance to touch and feel it – to kick the tires so to speak. All that changed yesterday. I have been having trouble with my pc so I headed on over to my local Comp USA for some parts; what did I happen to see while looking through the store? You guessed it – The Disney Computer.

This is a pretty nice computer to look at. The cpu sits behind the monitor and actually has a rather small footprint. The monitor has the classic Mickey Mouse ears, which serve as stereo speakers. All components are blue – printer, mouse, monitor, cpu, etc. Why blue and not red, I do not know. Anyway – to the meat of the matter.

It’s a 15 inch viewable flat panel LCD display, the picture looks pretty sharp; they didn’t skimp on that aspect. The mouse is of some shape like Mickey’s head. Attached to the keyboard is an optical pen which my wife and I both played with. It takes some getting use to, but really is fun. There is also an optional printer, digi-cam and camcorder. They’re all blue as well. The digi-cam is remotely shaped like Mickey’s head; not so much that it’d be difficult to use, but enough to tell what it’s suppose to be.

The processor running this Disney Machine? An Intel Celeron. It’s enough to scare any avid pc user away, but considering that this pc was built expressly for kids, I think it’d do well. While I am not a personal fan of the Celeron processor, it does have its merits. The most important of which is being affordable. I think the Celeron is probably the budget user’s processor. So while not out right fast and powerful, it’s great for a kid’s pc. After all, how much processing power does a 6-12 year old need?

The computer comes pre-loaded with a good supply of Disney titles to keep kids happy and entertained for quite some time. While I don’t recommend this pc for a replacement for the family computer, it is great for the kids’ pc. With a price tag around $600, it’s a good deal.

For more information see circuitcity.com or compusa.com.

From my family to yours: Have a wonderful Christmas and may all your Disney dreams come true – until next time, I’m Scott Short.
