Although the Stockade on Tom Sawyer's Island is now closed, due to deterioration of the natural materials, (actual logs) the 'rifles' that were once posted for young Confederate Army hopefuls have since been removed, that is, all but one!! This single 'rifle' remains as posterity for the rifles that were removed...
The Fort Wilderness is unmanned, but not totally unguarded...So, Injun Joe... you better still hide your hide if you ever get out of that bottomless pit you fell into, because there will still be a rifle at the ready for your capture!! Now, the next time you visit the Island, go take a peek at the riches and other treasure he stowed away before stumbling into a bottomless pit....he put them in Castle Rock!!
