The Disneyland Haunted Mansion seems to have its own separate following, so here goes... To give you an idea of what it is like to BE the 'dear departed' in the Haunted Mansion, the Doombuggies give you a glimpse into your future, of your ' view' as you are placed into your 'final destination'.
Just when you leave the Bride and her attic full of surprise spooks, to beckon others you enter to the Graveyard, the Doombuggie suddenly turns, and dips backwards as you recline, the view is the spooky scratchy trees, the stars in the sky, and the ever-present Raven. The same perspective as if you were being laid to rest!!
So, no it is not just because it is descending from the attic! Well I for one will not be spending my non living years there, too many tea parties, birthday parties and waiting for weddings that never seem to happen!!
