Gold at Disneyland – Did You Know
5/28/2005

By: Tina

Now for the latest on the little extra details of the big 5-0... As you see all sorts of 'icons' throughout the Park, all decked out for the Celebration, such as Dumbo, Mr Toad's car, a Tea Cup from the Mad Tea Party, you will notice if you look very carefully they are actually gilded in real gold leafing!!

Not all over, mind you, but on the top rim of the teacup, in front of the Mad Hatter Shop in Fantasyland, Dumbo (photo op elephant), nearest the circus pipe organ, it is on Dumbo's little clown hat and Toady's car in front of his 'home'.

You will also notice a nice little galleon from Neverland which has been hoisted down from the skies to let children have a little snapshot. The front end where a figure head would go, think a mermaid or maiden at the bow, is covered in gold leafing too!! Pretty classy!! No, you can't scrape your way into riches as they are nicely coated with clear-coat, but wow what a nice snapshot it makes!! Now, THAT is some expensive Pixie Dust!!

This is NOT the first time this has been done, "it's a small world" has always boasted its whirlygigs and 'snowflake' style trimmings in gold leafing, as well as the lettering above, what else, the Golden Horseshoe Revue!! Sure makes for a brilliant effect at high noon!! You can distinguish genuine gold leafing by an up close inspection of the seams of each leafing and it has a bit of a marbled effect, from being shaped so thinly!!

Did they get a Brinks Truck to deliver it? I don't think I have ever seen that done any where else, not even in Vegas!! Enjoy!!
