From Tennis Shoes to Glass Slippers: Erica's Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Fairytale
9/18/2006

By: Miss Erica

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was a young maiden named Erica. She dreamed of the day that she and her family would return to visit the Magical Kingdom of Walt Disney World. Finally, that glorious day arrived.

It was a dream come true. The sites, the sounds, Erica felt like she was coming home.

During the Wishes Fireworks Spectacular at the Magic Kingdom, something happened to Erica. While she stood there on Main Street, with the lights on the buildings glittering in her eyes and the score buzzing in her ears, a dream entered her heart.

The stories of Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and all of the great fairy tales crossed the threshold of her mind. Perhaps she could be a princess of her own fairytale, too.

Many people believe that being a princess is a dream only for little girls. However, even though Erica would be entering High School she knew that everyone is only a child inside, especially at Walt Disney World.

"I've been to Walt Disney World six times, survived Brazilian tour groups, rude tourists, Tower of Terror, and come out with all my limbs and a smile on my face," she pondered. "I believe that I'm more qualified than any five year old to be a princess."

"My tennis shoes may not be glass slippers, my shorts and t-shirt are certainly no ball gown. The Disney Transportation Motor Coach doesn't look much like a carriage. My mouse ears don't glitter like a tiara. But I have a dream and a kind heart that makes me a princess, too."

Erica then made a wish with all of her heart as an array of fireworks lit up the night sky. The fireworks ended and Erica and her family left the park as Jiminy Cricket wished them a goodnight.

On the way back to their hotel, Erica's good sense tried to convince her not to hope for her dream.

"How preposterous of a dream!" it mocked her.

Luckily, she didn't have enough good sense to let her dream go. Being at Walt Disney World and being a princess would be more magical than she could fathom.

As she gazed out the window and watched Cinderella Castle fade into the distance, her dream flew out in the warm Florida night, up to the stars and the heavens until it landed softly into just the right hands.

Erica tried to put her dream into the dark corners of her mind that evening, as to not get her hopes up. She didn't want to be too disappointed when her wish went unnoticed.

But as much as Erica knew about Walt Disney World, she overlooked one of the most important elements to pixie dust... At Walt Disney World wishes never go unnoticed.

It just so happens that young maiden Erica's wish fell into the hands of a kind, elderly woman. She has an illustrious clientele and most who have met her would agree that she has a magical air to her.

Yes, Erica's wish reached none other than the Fairy Godmother herself. This wish truly touched the Fairy Godmother and she knew just what to do. She would transform Erica into the princess she wished to be with a little help from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

In recent years, quality Fairy Godmothers have become few and far between. The Fairy Godmother, displeased with the tarnishing reputation of Fairy Godmothers everywhere, put her mind to do something about this enchantment epidemic. She then opened up the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a place where Fairy Godmothers-In-Training create princesses. Not to worry, though, all of the Fairy Godmothers-In-Training are top notch; the Fairy Godmother accepts nothing but the best.

Erica awoke the next day, excited for another magical day at Walt Disney World, but she was naively unaware of how magical this day would truly be.

Once out of their room, Erica and her family were whisked away to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Downtown Disney in the World of Disney.

At first Erica was hesitant and overwhelmed with all of the fuss being made over her.

"You really don't have to do all this," she proclaimed. "Give me a Mickey Mouse Ice cream bar and a day here at Walt Disney World and I'd feel like a princess." But when she arrived at Downtown Disney and gazed up at the entrance to Princess Hall her protests ended and her mouth hung open. Cinderella's carriage, perched high atop the entrance, gleamed in the bright Florida sun. Statues of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty flanked the doorways to the Princess Hall.

The Princess Hall is a feast for the senses. Colorful buntings hang from the tall ceilings along with banners of all the princesses. On the back wall there is a large window in which all of the Disney princesses' castles are visible.

The Princess Hall has enough pink, pixie dust and royal regalia to make any princess feel at home. Here you can find everything a princess could ever need or desire, except for the prince. Some things even the fairy godmother can't do for you.

After browsing around, Erica headed to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique nestled in the back corner of the hall. She then checked in with the Fairy Godmothers-In-Training and was able to look around the lovely Hall while she waited for them to get everything ready for her transformation.

When everything was prepared for her the Fairy Godmother personally welcomed her in and told her about what she would experience.

Erica was escorted to her royal seat inside the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. There she was given the choice of three different, and equally beautiful, tiaras: the classic iridescent gem, one accented with pink jewels, and one with sprinklings of Sapphire blue gemstones. They all sparkled, but the blue seemed to glitter especially brightly to Erica. Perhaps she chose the blue because it was her favorite color or she thought it would bring out her eyes.

Maiden Erica also selected a blue and white gem that was placed next to her eye.

Erica's Fairy Godmother-In-Training then painted her fingernails with pink pixie dust polish.

During Erica's transformation into a princess her Fairy Godmother-In-Training told her how she heard of her wish and was very happy to get to be a part of making that come true. She also inquired as to what kingdom Erica was from, which finishing school she attended, and whether she had found her own prince yet. Although Erica was a little taken back by this last question she found her Fairy Godmother-In-Training to be very kind, welcoming, rather proficient ... and a tad bit nosy.

Next, Erica's Fairy Godmother-In-Training smoothed back Erica's hair and added some pixie dust; she would return to Erica's mane later. Now, it was time for a little makeup. The Fairy Godmother applied some blue eye shadow to match Erica's tiara and gem. She was dolled up with some pixie dust pink lip-gloss and shimmering blush.

With the rest of her transformation complete, the only thing Erica was missing was the right princess "hairdo." The Fairy Godmother created the "classic Princess bun" for Erica. The final touches were placing the glittering tiara on her head and a wave of pixie dust from the Fairy Godmother-In-Training's wand.

All the while Erica had no idea what she looked like; her Fairy Godmother-In-Training had turned her so that she couldn't see herself in the mirror. For all Erica knew she was still an exhausted looking Tourist.

Then, with a whirl of pixie dust, the Fairy Godmother-In-Training spun her around so she could see herself, her Princess self.

Erica's mouth hung open. She was flabbergasted. She had the sparkling tiara, the beautiful hair, the makeup, and the pixie dust. Now she truly was the princess she had envisioned in her wish. Her smile spread ear to ear. Who said wishes don't come true? She gave her Fairy Godmother-In-Training a hug and thanked her for everything. She could now walk around Walt Disney World feeling like the true princess she had wished to be.

Never stop believing because wishes really do come true.
