Ok, I will be the first to admit I am not a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, but I must say, the temporary overlay at Disneyland's Space Mountain is amazing!! The has been one of my favorite attractions at the park for years and I had the thrill of checking out this new limited time only version of the ride a couple of weeks ago and it was better than I thought it would be.
We got to the park on Friday evening for this visit and we were not able to ride Rockin' Space Mountain until Saturday night but it was well worth the wait. The wait times for the ride were always around an hour the whole weekend that we were there so Saturday morning we got Fastpasses for Space Mountain and decided to use them before we went to dinner at Club 33 (Look for a story on that soon). I wasn't sure what to expect as I had not gotten much input from others about the overlay so I went in with a very open mind and I was amply rewarded.
I have always wanted to see the inside of the attraction with the lights on so this was a special treat. The stage lighting that is used gives you more then enough of an idea just what it looks like inside that dark mountain. The music and lights work very well together and it made for a whole new ride experience that I will never forget. You really get an idea how close things are in there and just how massive it is inside the mountain.
Those of you that have not had a chance to check out this fantastic overlay need to get down to the park before it is gone! The event is going on until April 26, 2007 and it is worth a trip just to see it. California Adventure got in on the action as well with Rockin' California Screamin' and it is worth checking out if you are at the park, but the main attraction needs to be Space Mountain. Screamin' is good, but that attraction lends itself well with just about any sound tract and it has to be one of the smoothest roller coasters I have ever been on. So when you come to check out Space Mountain, get yourself a Park Hopper ticket and go check out Screamn' as well.
I would love to see Disneyland add an attraction like the Rockin' Roller Coaster that they have at Walt Disney World but I wouldn't want to lose the dark "space" of Space Mountain to get it. This was a fantastic overlay and one that I hope they will do again in the future.
Great job Disneyland and the Imagineers!!!!
