Meet The Robinsons
4/1/2007

By: Donna Gayler

On the spur of the moment, my sister called and invited me to go to the movies wither her and my two younger nephews. They were off-track from year-round school and needed a diversion. She invited two boys that were friends and we decided to go to the first showing of the day of "Meet The Robinsons".

It was the opening day for the Disney animated movie, and we made sure that we were first in line at the box office. We got our popcorn and drinks and were able to procure prime seats. As the theater darkened, we were pleasantly surprised at how few previews and NO commercials were shown.

As the main feature started, it tugs at your heart right away, and even the kids were still as they watched the story unfold. It starts out with Lewis, a baby left on the doorstep of an orphanage who likes to invent things, usually with less than successful results. But he keeps on trying, even though it interferes with his "adoption interviews".

Lewis is obsessed with finding his birth mother and has invented a memory scanning machine that a sinister character is trying to steal for his own nefarious ends. The Bowler Hat Guy sabotages the machine, it doesn't work, and causes a catastrophe in the gym!

Up pops Wilber Robinson from the future, and convinces Lewis to come to the future and help him, in exchange for being sent back in time to find his birth mother. He is introduced to many zany characters and inventions that are part and parcel of the Robinson family.

He ends up enjoying them so much, that he wishes to be come part of it. The movie is a puzzle that unfolds with humor, realization and subtle references to other movies, TV shows and even a Disney attraction or two! It is quite entertaining, and leaves you with the maxim, "Keep Moving Forward" which, incidentally, is a quote straight from Walt himself.

This movie is fast-paced and you will be captivated by several of the characters. I truly enjoyed this movie and look forward to purchasing it when it comes out in DVD. A great view for kids and adults alike! The official movie website is also a great find and has lots to do and see. Find it here: Meet The Robinsons website

I give "Meet The Robinsons" 4 Mickey's!
