Living a Disney Dream

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since my last article published on this website. At this point, I guess you’re wondering who’s the guy behind this article: “The Magic & Wonder of Disney’s POP Century Resort.” Well my name is Stephen “Disney” Sperandio and I am a Disney Fanatic!!! Ever since I was young boy, I always loved Disney movies, books and toys. I wanted to be a Disney Animator for so long, but after years of countless drawings, I realized I did not have what it takes to create characters that have been part of the Disney storybooks.

I didn’t give up hope however; I found another segment of the Walt Disney Company that was more fascinating: Disney’s Imagineering. The Disney Imagineers’ creativity astonishes me and the idea of designing rides and attractions for the Disney Theme Parks was so cool!! So I picked up some books on Disney Imagineering and I read and read to see what Imagineering was all about. After my readings, I decided I was going to create Walt Disney World in my basement since; WDW is my all time favorite park (I have been there four times). So I pulled out all my Walt Disney World books, pamphlets, movies and music and I went to work. We had many snowy days in Massachusetts, so I thought it was time to get to work. I turned on my stereo to listen to the sounds of my favorite Disney albums and off I went. I created all four theme parks, Typhoon Lagoon, Downtown Disney and some of my favorite Disney resorts. I used items around the house like paper towel rolls for the spires of Cinderella’s Castle to a styrofoam ball for the EPCOT geosphere. When I finished the resort I was amazed at how it all came together. It was not until months later, that I found the WDW Monorail set at a local Disney store and it accentuated the “world” nicely. My friends all think I’m crazy but they are astonished every time I add something new to my display. I try to keep the park recent (i.e. new rides, attractions) so it always has a fresh new feel.

As I grow older my Disney dreams become stronger and I decided for my Senior Marketing Class project to create a presentation on the Walt Disney World Company and I had the class go through a simulated “Traditions” Class as potential Disney Cast Members.

Marketing Project

In the following year, it was time for me to move onto college. I attend Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. When I arrived on campus my Dorm was decked out with Walt Disney World posters and other Disney memorabilia. It was a good reminder of what my ultimate college goal is: to work for the Walt Disney Company. My college roommate, Mark dubbed me with the nickname Stephen “Disney” Sperandio even though my true middle name is David. Everyone on campus knows my love for Disney and they always consult me first when they are going on any Disney vacation.

If it wasn’t for my other roommate, Josh I wouldn’t have returned back to Walt Disney World this summer. He and I toured the world in style. As you know, we stayed at POP Century and we had an “ultimate Disney experience” by seeing everything that the “World” has to offer. At the end of this year, I will be venturing to Disneyland for its 50th Anniversary celebration this should be a real treat! And next year, during my junior year at JWU, I plan on doing a Disney internship so I can learn all about the company that I love so much. Later on in life, I hope to take the “Ultimate Disney Challenge” visiting all the Disney parks. So there you have it, my Disney story. I plan on writing every time I can about the resorts of Walt Disney World. I hope you enjoy them!
