| The Monorail is actually quite something of a marvel. So much so that it is a National Mechanical Engineering Landmark!! Yes!! Disneyland Imagineers went to Cologne Germany to study the technology and how-to's for using a scaled-down model in Disneyland!
The technology was first developed by a company named Alweg (pronounced Al-Veg, hard G-sound, like in G-r-r-r!!) The inaugural day was quite a fete!! The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by celebrities and President alike!! It was one of the original E-ticket attractions!! The E-ticket was also introduced this same year, upon the opening of the Monorail, Matterhorn, Submarine Voyage, and Fantasyland Autopia!! (Tomorrowland already had theirs!!) The year was 1959!! Talk about forward thinking!! |
