Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - A Review

I'm afraid I'm having a hard time coming up with a witty review for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. So I will just share with you my honest experience.

By now, you probably have realized that for my employment, I usually end up watching a new release twice. On Friday night, I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with 3 of my favorite friends and my husband. I should make you all aware that we are all over the age of 40. We did laugh. Some parts were very funny. The group of us walked out afterwards and I asked everyone how they liked it. Our Aussie friend said he really had wanted to enjoy this movie because he had loved the computer game back in the 80s but fell asleep in it instead. Another friend said it was like Napoleon Dynamite only without a plot. Still...even with these comments, we went out to dinner together and talked about the movie for a good hour and laughed at our favorite parts all over again.

On Saturday, I took my 17 and 16 year old sons and honestly expected to hear them laugh themselves silly. They did not. This time, I was the one who fell asleep or rather, fought the urge to do so throughout much of the movie. This is strange because I usually like a movie better the second time. I asked my sons how they liked it and they said it was okay. My older son did retell parts of the movie he liked best but the 16 year old said it wasn't a total waste of an afternoon and I shouldn't feel bad that I spent nearly $10 for him to see it. That was the end of his comments.

On a totally objective note: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is rated PG. I didn't find any offensive parts to this movie for parents with younger children. There are some very funny parts to the movie. Some of the plot lines are not completed, which left questions unanswered and makes me wonder if they are planning a second movie. I felt it was well acted and particularly enjoyed Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent and Alan Rickman's voice over for Marvin the robot. The aliens out of Jim Henson's Creature Shop were AMAZING!!!

If you enjoy British humor or are looking for something different and refreshing...this is the movie for you. The audience response on both Friday and Saturday was favorable and I rate that at an 80%.
