My husband, friends and I all saw Valiant this weekend. I was concerned about this movie since I had read some "not so" favorable reviews about it. When I arrived at the theatre, I was told by people coming out how much they enjoyed the movie. I was really encouraged. Valiant is a wonderful movie with a great lesson about doing your best no matter how big or small you are. We all make a difference.
As a mom: Though there was a lot of fowl language...there was NO foul language. ;-) Valiant didn't have any of the more "adult" humor type references like some of the more recent animations that have come out with lately. I couldn't see anything even remotely offensive in the movie. Over half our audience was under the age of 10. The movie kept everyone spellbound for the entire time. I didn't hear crying or squirming of any kind. I'd say that is significant. I didn't take my teenage sons along with me but I think they will like this movie and I'll encourage them to go see it. I really feel Valiant appeals to every age group.
As an adult: Though Valiant is created by the Shrek people, I didn't find it one of those "laugh-so-hard-my-sides-hurt" kind of movie. It is more of a sweet story that children of all ages can enjoy. My friends and I really liked the historical references to World War 2 and found it interesting about the awards given to animals who aided the British troops during the war. We were also glad that in the closing credits then mentions no animals were harmed in the making of the movie. Not even Dennis. If you don't know who Dennis is...then I would highly encourage you to go see Valiant with your family! I gave this movie an audience approval rating of 85, which in my book is very good!
