Original V. Sequel

As I was looking through all of my Disney movies, I realized that I had all of the original movies, but not many of the sequels. Disney made a lot of sequels to the great classic movies. I'll say my opinions on what I thought of some of them and which movie is better. You may not agree with me on my choices, but they are just my opinions and thoughts.

Let's start off with an original, a classic, one to not be outdone. Cinderella. Yes, there is a sequel to the movie, called Cinderella II: Dreams Come True. It's a complication of three stories rolled into one movie. Disney did not need to make a sequel to Cinderella. The sequel was just a bunch of little stories, it seemed like they were running out of ideas. They didn't need to try to repeat this classic movie.

Up where they walk, Up where they run, Up where they stay all day in the sun, Wanderin' free, Wish I could be, Part of that world! Well Melody isn't like her mother Ariel, Melody wants to see what it's like to be a mermaid in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. Ariel tries to hide her mermaid roots by Melody figures it out. This movie wasn't that bad because they brought back some of the original voices from the first movie. Still not as great as the original one, but Disney did try their hardest to make it as good.

A trilogy, not many times do you see a trilogy when it comes to Disney movies. I'm talking about Aladdin, Return of Jafar, and Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Aladdin is one of my favorite Disney movies and I love all of the sequels. In Return of Jafar, well it's pretty obvious what that movie is about, Jafar comes back. In King of Thieves, Aladdin finds his long lost father who turns out to be head of a group of thieves. Disney did a very good job in creating these sequels and they even managed to get Robin Williams back for King of Thieves. Robin Williams didn't do the voice for Genie in Return of Jafar, that belonged to Dan Castellaneta. None other than Homer Simpson himself.

One of the best Disney Pixar movies would have to be Toy Story. Everyone knows this story and I don't think I need to describe it. Now in Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear and gang go on a rescue mission to try to save Woody from being sold off to a toy collector out of the country. This movie was just as good as the original. It brought back the same voices, it was funny, and it was creative. Toy Story 2, in my opinion, is one of the best sequels to a Disney movie.

Pixar

Another Disney modern day classic would have to be The Lion King. It was a great movie, a little on the sad side when it came to Mufasa being murdered. Lion King has a sequel called The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. In it, Simba's daughter Kiara falls in love with one of Scar's follower's son. That's a problem there, seeing as Scar's friends were banned from the pride-lands after what Scar did to Mufasa. You can bet Simba isn't too happy that his daughter is talking to Scar's friends. This sequel wasn't as good as the original. It has some action in it and maybe one good song, but the songs certainly weren't as memorable as the ones in the first movie.

I love pirates, I was a pirate for Halloween back in second grade, I love the ride at Walt Disney World, and when I heard that there was a sequel to Peter Pan I wanted to see. I watched it when it was showing on the Disney Channel and Return to Never Land didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was very predictable. While I was watching it, I felt like I have seen this story before, the only difference is that it is Wendy's daughter visiting Never Land.

Now, onto a better Pirates movie, at least I'm hoping it will be a better sequel than the Peter Pan one. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and it comes out in July. I will definitely be going to see that movie. I saw a trailer for it and I can't wait. Maybe Disney is getting better with these sequels after all.

Disney still thinks that there is money to be made off the original movies. Some of the time this is true. Some movies were almost as good as the originals, but others shouldn't have been made at all. Disney gave it a shot, they attempted to revive the original and a lot of movie studios do this at some point. But sometimes, you can't mess with the original.
