Love is in the air and Valentine's Day is near and three of the most famous couples at the Walt Disney World parks are Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, and Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. I'm going to write about their history briefly and some interesting information behind these characters that make up the famous couples.

To start off is Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Walt Disney created Mickey on a train ride from Los Angeles to New York. He was to be originally called Mortimer Mouse but Walt's wife did not like the name, so Walt changed it. Minerva Mouse was created as a love interest for Mickey in 1928. She was based off the "flapper" girl, the new trend at the time. Mickey and Minnie made their first appearance in the short cartoon Plane Crazy, then they stared in The Gallopin' Gaucho, and then finally Steamboat Willie, the most famous of Mickey's cartoons. Minnie has a pet cat named Figaro, who can be seen in Pinocchio.

The next couple would be Donald and Daisy Duck. Donald Fauntleroy Duck made his first appearance in the cartoon The Wise Little Hen in 1934. Donald's famous bad temper can first be seen in the cartoon The Orphan's Benefit in 1934 when he gets furious with the little orphans for eating his pie. Daisy Duck was created as Donald's girlfriend and appeared in Don Donald in 1936. Daisy replaced Donna Duck, who was Daisy's sister. Daisy has three nieces that we know of, April, May, and June Duck, who are Donna's daughters. Daisy is a member of the Chit-Chat Society, whose other members include Clarabelle Cow and Clara Cluck. Daisy's best friend is Minnie Mouse.

Finally, our last couple is Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Kermit is the icon of the Muppets industry and he first appeared on the show Sam and Friends in 1955, but not as a frog, as a lizard. He first appeared as a frog in 1969 on a television special called Hey Cinderella. Kermit is a regular on Sesame Street as a news anchor or he could just be seen singing his "It's Not Easy Bein' Green" song. It is rumored that Kermit is named after one of Jim Henson's childhood friends, named Theodore Kermit Scott. Miss Pigathius Lee first appeared in 1975. Miss Piggy is famously known for her attitude about becoming a huge star, at least she thinks she is already one. She is also madly in love with Kermit and has a pet poodle named Foo-Foo.

But I was wondering if these couples were ever married. In all my research I could not find anything saying that they were husband and wife. All of these couples have been together for at least thirty years, most of them for longer than that. I guess this proves that you do not have to be married to have one of the longest lasting relationships in Hollywood. I sure hope these couples have a great Valentine's Day. Now all we need to do is play Cupid and find a lucky gal for Goofy. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
