Food, who doesn't love it? I know I do and I love the food and restaurants located at Walt Disney World. People have a wide variety of food choices and restaurants to choose from. Everything from fast food to character dining is present at Walt Disney World. I'll say my opinions on some of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat.
Let's start with fast food. I do not mean fast food as in Burger King or McDonald's, I mean fast food as, great tasting food made fast, also known as counter service. Two fast counter service restaurants that are in the Magic Kingdom are Pecos Bill Café and Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café. Pecos Bill's is located in Frontierland and you can order cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chili, fries and even a salad. This is a big restaurant so there is plenty of seating and it is not far from Splash Mountain. So if you are waiting to use your Fastpass and need somewhere close to eat, try Pecos Bill Café. Cosmic Ray's is located across from the Indy Speedway in Tomorrowland. You can listen to the animatronic Sonny Eclipse sing and play the piano while you are eating. The menu is pretty much the same as Pecos Bill's, but there are more salad and soup options to choose from. Also, there are a lot of sandwiches to choose from. The next counter service restaurant is in the Future World part of Epcot called Electric Umbrella. They have a wide variety of food and sandwiches to choose from and there is additional seating upstairs, just be careful bringing your tray of food up the stairs.
If you are with younger kids and want to have some fun while eating, I suggest these next few restaurants. I've been to all three of these restaurants and all of them have great food and a lot of fun entertainment. The first restaurant is The Crystal Palace, located in the Magic Kingdom. It is a buffet so there is much to choose from. There are also characters walking around the restaurant. All were Winnie the Pooh characters and I've got my picture taken with a few of them. The nest restaurant is also a buffet and is located inside the Contemporary Hotel and it is called Chef Mickey's. Buffet + make your own ice cream sundae station + Mickey/Goofy/Chip and Dale/ character greetings + a Disney gift shop right outside the restaurant + the monorail flying by = a wonderful time. Finally, dining with wild animatronic animals is always fun when you are in The Rainforest Café. One is located in the Animal Kingdom and the other is in Downtown Disney. It's a fun atmosphere to be in, a lot of food options for everyone, and the younger children will love all of the different animals and the pretend thunderstorms that take place.
Now, let's get to the good stuff, dessert. Disney World has many desserts to choose from. There is candy, cookies, yogurt, bakery goods, ice cream, and much more. Two of my favorite dessert places happen to be located in the Magic Kingdom. The first one is called the Sunshine Tree Terrace and is right next to The Tiki Room. I can remember my family exiting out of the Tiki Room and walking right over to the place to and getting ice cream. But they have more than ice cream, they have citrus swirls, floats, and slushies. The next dessert place is also an ice cream place, Mrs. Potts' Cupboard, and it is in Fantasyland. My family and I always eat our ice cream at a nearby table so we can watch the fireworks. It is my favorite place to watch the fireworks because you have an amazing view. Mrs. Potts's Cupboard has floats, sundaes, cookies, milkshakes, and ice cream to offer. I would highly suggest stopping here if you haven't already. And now, if you are really in need of a fix of ice cream and need it fast, stop at one of the ice cream carts and grab a Mickey Mouse ice cream sandwich or ice cream bar. Both are in the shape of Mickey, but on the ice cream sandwich you get more details of his face.
To make your Disney eating experience even more fun and interesting, check out these places: The 50's Prime Time Café and the various restaurants located in the World Showcase. The 50's Prime Time Café will warp you back to the 50's with all of the decorations around the restaurant, the televisions showing black and white sitcoms, and the waiters or waitresses being in full character. Your waiter/waitresses can be very funny at times, so be prepared to laugh and enjoy some good food. It has a big menu with a great dessert section. If you want to eat food from around the world, just go to Epcot. Check out all of the different restaurants with different menus at each one, from Chinese to French to Italian to German to all of the countries located in the World Showcase. You will not get bored with these food options and it'll give you a chance to expand your eating horizons.
You only get to go to Disney World so often, so enjoy the wonderful food that the chefs prepare for you. Eat with characters, grab a fast snack, or whatever it may be, just enjoy the great tasting food and try to have a relaxing time dining with your family and friends.
