Walt Disney World After Labor Day...Whew!

Walt Disney World is a living, breathing entity. Just enter it's realm and you can feel the life, the pulse and the magic. All the attractions and the lights, the people, cast members and even the fireworks add to this feeling of "Life". And much like the oceans, it has it's own tides, eddies and currents, all which move, not with the phases of the moon, but with the time of the seasons and holidays.

The best times to visit Walt Disney World is "between" the high tides so to speak. These "lulls" are between of course, the major holidays, like Christmas and Thanksgiving which are the most crowded times of the year. Spring break in the early fall is another very busy time. Now spring break is really two months out of the year. Certain Colleges get out in March, others in April. So between Jan 2nd and the beginning of the summer season and here in Florida the kids get out of school earlier than the rest of the country, so that means the middle of May and the very best time to visit, right after Labor Day until the end of October.

I love the times after Labor Day! Its as if someone threw a "Magical" switch and the crowds are literary cut in half! Also, you will see a huge drop in the amount of kids attending. This is of course because most people's vacations are over and the kids are back in school. Don't get me wrong, there are still kids and crowds, but everything is opened up and walking around the parks is slower and much calmer. Places which are so crowded during the "High Tide" times are now pleasantly vacant and wide open. A perfect example of this is the Saturday following Labor day, my wife and I Went to the Magic Kingdom, traditionally the most crowded park, and after our stop at the Main St. Bakery for coffee, we went over to the Pirates of the Caribbean, and just walked right on! Even Space Mountain which is usually a wait of 60 minutes or more, was just a 10 minute wait on stand-by!

Another great benefit of attending after Labor Day is eating! If anyone has tried to dine at any table service restaurant without a reservation during the busy times, you knew someone would have to cancel if there was any chance at all. My wife and I walked up to the Crystal Palace, we were surprised, and there was hardly anyone outside waiting for a table, and in 10 minutes we were seated, and this on a Saturday. You will really enjoy the counter-service, no more fighting for a table and the noise level is low enough to make a phone call! We even walked up to Big Thunder Mountain, which is always at least a 40 minute wait, and in 5 minutes were on!

Now don't get me wrong, there are going to be days where the crowds will be large, but even so, no way near the numbers of the summer and holiday attendance. We see a lot of young couples during these lean times with toddlers and babies. It is much easier to enjoy the parks with small ones when the crowds are light. There are many people who will pull their kids out of school and take a late vacation just to enjoy Walt Disney World during this time. You don't even need to use fastpass half the times. Of course the perennial favorites like Expedition Everest and Soarn' were still about 30 minutes, but that is still almost half the time you will normally see. One thing about living right near Walt Disney World, you can see the Parks ebb and flow with the seasons and even Month by Month! It's amazing to see how the crowds wane and wax with the times. The next best time to come again would be after New Years til' the Middle of Spring. Of course, for my wife and I, we just love to come and be a part of it all, no matter how crowded. So if you can make that vacation happen during the slow times, go for it, you will enjoy the Magic like never before!
