The Year of a Million Dreams Press Event - Part II
2/19/2007

By: Bill and Donna

Thursday the 25th was a full scheduled day and I arrived in the Magic Kingdom at 8:15am. Again it was raining to beat the band, cold and dreary. But at the Castle, the sun shown for the Davis family of Lilonia Arkansas. This family made history as the First family to spend the night in Cinderella Castle! Mother Angie, Father Brian, sons Kolton, 8, Dallas 11 and sisters Katy 10 and big sister Jessica 16 brought all the sunshine needed. When I got a chance to speak to them, the story of how they won a week's stay at Walt Disney World and a night's stay in the Castle was one of Disney Legends. Angie explained she entered the contest on-line at www.Disneyparks.com/rules. The question was "Why do you deserve a stay at Walt Disney World?" Angie believes when she explained her husband was in the Army stationed in Iraq, that might have been the reason she won. But when she found out she had won, ABC contacted the Army and arranged for Brian to get leave during the stay! That is magical by any means.

At 9:30am the Disney Dream Jobs Announcement by the President of Worldwide Operations, Magic Kingdom Al Weiss began. Disney's cast members are the first people guests come in contact with. They are the heart of soul of the Disney experience. Disney and Website Dreambuilders.com have teamed up to give anyone who has dreamed of becoming a Disney cast member a chance to fulfill their dreams. A consumer employment survey revealed that 84 percent of Americans do not believe they are in a Dream job. When surveyed about jobs in Disney, the most sought after job was that of "Jungle Cruise Skipper"

So as the Year of a Million Dreams begins, anyone 18 years or older can submit a video resume on the following Dream Jobs: Haunted Mansion Butler, Disney Princess, Disney Pirate, Disney Parade Performer and of course, Jungle Cruise Skipper. Five winners will be selected to live out their Dream Job in Disneyland California. Dates for submittal are January 24 through February 20th. Go to www.careerbuilder.com/disneydreamjobs. The winner will spend the day at their Dream job! I spoke to Al Weiss and asked what the opportunities for advancement as a cast member are. He said: "I started out over 30 years ago as a cast member closing the cash registers at the end of the day. After 20 different and challenging jobs he is now head of Worldwide Operations". Disney hires 70 to 80 percent of it's management need from within the ranks, that's why a Disney job is a dream job. You can climb as high as you can dream! With this commitment and loyalty to it's cast members, you can rest assured that Disney will stay the leader in the business.

At 11:00am by Casey's Corner, the dedication of a new amenity, the "Disney New Wish Lounge". Disney a sponsor of the "Make a Wish Foundation" which help seriously ill children fulfill their fondest wishes! This new lounge will be for the convenience and comfort of the Make A Wish recipients and their families. A place to get away from the crowds, get some rest and have refreshments. And on this dedication day, a little girl from the Make a Wish program, little Katy Justice will be crowned Honorary Princess with her own Royal Carriage to ride in a parade dedicated just for her! As little Katy appeared, she was beaming and a bit nervous, as the Fairy Godmother, Genie and Snow White and Aurora joined in to help crown her Princess. She even did the famous "Princess Wave" perfectly. All in all, a Magical day for Katy.

Now one of the most anticipated reviews, at 1:00pm the first group of media got their "Sneak Peek" at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club. I again was fortunate to see this show several times before and from what I see, the Imagineers are tweaking the show each time. This show, similar in technology to Turtle Talk with Crush, brings the guest Interactivity to a new level. The premise of the show is instead of gathering screams from humans, the now gather laughter. In this new show, guests will soon be able to text message their jokes to the monsters, and if picked they will be told at the show. Monster Mike Wazowski is the host and like Crush, will talk personally to guests in the show, ask questions and of course, tell jokes. After the show, I spoke to several Imagineers connected with the initial design and the support software for the attraction. I asked if the show changes with the audience, ie more children, adults and they said it does and will do it seamlessly. The show can be customized to the audience present. The show is still being tested and refined before a spring opening, but this new technology is state of the art and I believe once the final format is realized, this will be a huge hit.

The event everyone was waiting for is the announcement of the first family to win the Castle stay from the Disneyworld parks. But before this announcement, Singer and Songwriter Daniel Powter entertained the press with his new song, "The World You've Dreamed of Lately" and several others. Then the Fouch family from DeWitt, Michigan was announced, this Lucky family of four, Jim and Lisa and their two children Brad and Hannah will be treated like Royalty, This special ceremony here tonight, Dining at Cinderella's Royal table and the magical overnight stay at the Royal Castle Suite on the fourth floor. The family won at Disney's MGM Studios when Brad was sitting in the Star Wars simulator in the right seat at the right time for that was the location the computer randomly picked. And the Castle forecourt ceremony had all the pomp and circumstance that Disney could Muster. The family was even given Royal night garments for their stay in the Castle.

And right after the ceremonies, Disney had a special dining experience waiting for the press in Fantasyland. Entertainment, food and drink, and the grand finale of the day, special desserts on Main St. and a "Wishes" fireworks display.
