 In the 1960's Walt Disney envisioned a larger apartment to be used by himself, brother Roy, their families, friends and special guests. Walt selected Dorothea Redmond to create the concept art. Sadly, when Walt passed away in December 1966, plans were halted on the construction. For the past 40 years, the space originally planned for this apartment had other uses. Most recently as the Disney Gallery for the past 20 years.
Fortunately the original concept art by Dorothea Redmond still existed. Today's Imagineers utilized those original renderings to create the Disney Dream Suite, located above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Disneyland. Beginning January 31st, one lucky winner will be chosen almost daily to bring up to 5 guests to stay in this beautiful, luxury suite as part of the "Year of a Million Dreams". The Dream Suite features two master bedrooms, bathrooms, parlor, informal sitting room, and balcony in a 2,200 square foot location overlooking the Rivers of America, in New Orleans Square. Disney Imagineers did not disappoint in creating this masterpiece. True Disney magic exists in every room, including the master bathroom. Yes, I said the "Master Bathroom"! The stained glass window above the master tub is called "Aurora – Young Woman at a Fountain", a replica of the original created by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The original resides in the Morse Museum of American Park in Winter Park, Florida. Approximately 1850 stars in the walls and ceiling create a relaxing and magical feeling. There is also a 'hidden Mickey' located in the stars. Guests will discover special effect surprises in each room. The magic comes alive when pressing the 'Good Night Kiss' switch. The painting over the Master Bed transforms with a vision of mermaids magically appearing. This beautiful piece of art was created by Jim Crouch, a fine artist within Imagineering. The room also takes on a romantic air with special lighting effects. Fireflies visit the Bayou-themed patio overlooking New Orleans Square. The open-air patio features comfortable chaises and the perfect location to view Fantasmic! The secondary Master Bedroom has a more masculine feel with brown and rust colored accents. The one-of-a-kind chandler has a western feel with spurs along with the Disney "D" logo. Train lovers will appreciate the detail with the train layout, located near the ceiling. The various objects long the train's path, move as the train passes by. The Disneyland Dream Suite is the ultimate addition to the many existing "Dreams" that are given away daily in 2008!
