Since the highly successful Disney movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, adapted from C.S. Lewis' series of fantasy books entitled "The Chronicles of Narnia" the question was not if a sequel would be made, but when. The Movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian opened on May 16th, 2008. As with the first entry, Disney's Hollywood Studios had the attraction "The making of Narnia" on Mickey Ave, giving guests a sampling of the movie and its sets.

Now in its stead Disney had the grand opening of the new "Prince Caspian" exhibit here at the Studios. MickeyNews has been invited to cover this grand event and was also privy to some backstage interviews and photographs with Imagineer Dave Hoffman and actor Warwick Davis who plays the Black Dwarf, Nikabrik in the movie.

The event began with Prince Caspian making a royal entrance to start things off on his black horse. After dismounting and standing by for pictures, I got the chance to speak to Imagineer and art director, Dave Hoffman who helped with the concept and design of the new attraction. I asked Dave what the major differences were between both attractions. He said " The original exhibit was more of a trailer or promotional piece, this new attraction is an interactive experience for the guests, for this allows the guests to go into the story" I also asked Dave how long it took for the new exhibit to be built. "From the conceptual stage, to the actual building of the sets took about a year" "The sets themselves took about five months to complete"

When you enter the attraction, you start in an anteroom, with a large stone entranceway to the right and a small video screen in front where a quick synopsis of the making of the new film is shown. But the highlight of this new attraction is the absolutely amazing detailed sets that the Disney Imagineers and Artisans created. You enter Aslan's How, Chamber of the Stone Tablet. This recreated set has to be seen to really be appreciated; mere description does it no justice. In the Middle is the broken Stone Table and you are surrounded by five rear-projection screens where the 13 minute attraction takes place. With the special effects, lighting and Dimensional sound, you are taken on a brief tour of Narnia and the story of Prince Caspian, complete with scenes of the movie and the most striking images at the end of Prince Caspian projected on the walls, looking like a stone carving.

I also got the privilege of speaking to Warwick Davis, who plays the Black Dwarf, Nikabrik. When asked about his role in the movie, he said: "It was a very interesting role for me". "I looked to the novel for inspiration for my character". He also stated that the role of Nikabrik was "More of a real experience for me than say working on Star Wars, because most of what you see in Star Wars was added post production" Mr. Davis also stated that "Working on Narnia required a good imagination, because you had to deal with creatures and characters that were not there, and working with a good actor was a lot easier"

After speaking to Mr. Davis, we got a chance at some nice pictures with him and Prince Caspian. The attraction is very well done and as I said previously, the attention to detail is half the show! There will be two queue lines, one if you want to meet and greet Prince Caspian himself, the other for the attraction. You can still see the attraction after the meet and greet, you will be filtered into the line. Make sure you put "Prince Caspian" on your itinerary when you visit the studios; the attraction is between "One Man's Dream and "Toy Story Mania" on Mickey Ave.
