Disneyland is the Disney Companies flagship theme park. This was the first park that was built and opened July 1955. It continues to grow to this day and is one of California’s hottest theme park destinations.

Disney parade, show begins sneak peek

Guests to Disney's California Adventure this week are getting a sneak peek of two new features at the theme park - a Pixar-themed parade and live show aimed at preschool-aged children.

Pixar Play Parade made its first run Monday through the open theme park, complete with a dozen floats reaching up to two stories tall and characters from key Disney-Pixar movies, including "Toy Story" and "Ratatouille."

The parade features some firsts for Disney parades: the biggest stilts reaching five-feet tall and fire shooting out of the top of a float. Visitors also can expect sprays of water and dropping bubbles.

"It's a little edgier than you're used to seeing," said Fred Tallaksen, the show director.

Random visitors and cast members also got the chance to see the revamped Playhouse Disney Live on Stage! Show – a mostly puppet production with songs and storylines from popular Disney Channel shows aimed at ages 2 to 5, including "Handy Manny" and "Little Einsteins."

"We decided we wanted to keep up with the times and do shows that are actually showing on the Disney Channel," said John Addis, the senior show director.

Both features officially begin Friday.
