More than 100 special-needs children took to the skies early this morning for the annual Dreamlift, a charity event that provides a one-day trip to Walt Disney World.
Boarding a chartered Miami Air 737 at the National Guard hangar at Trenton-Mercer Airport, the excited youngsters and chaperones waved to the dozens who had turned out to see them off. Parents, volunteers, police officers, firefighters, emergency workers and politicians all woke up early to make the 7 a.m. sendoff.
With takeoff just before 8 a.m., the group was scheduled to touch down in Florida around 10:30.
Arriving at the park around 11:30 a.m., the group will have six and a half hours to enjoy the sights and rides and pick up any souvenirs. They return on another special flight tonight, set to land about 10 p.m.
