Things are looking up for Euro Disney as more people visited its Disneyland theme parks near Paris.

The company said it made an operating profit of 1.3 million euros in the first half of its financial year which ended in March. That compares with a operating loss of 36.3 million for the same period a year earlier. Revenues were boosted by Easter falling in March this year rather than April last year.

Attendance was up by 14.8% to seven million and those visitors spent more, an average of 44 euros and 70 cents, up 2.5% from the previous year. Euro Disney's hotel occupancy rate also rose by 5.4% to 88.5%.

The group is still not making money, but its net loss was down by 47%; it narrowed from 82 million euros to just under 43.5 million.

Costs were up by 10% year-on-year due to the hiring of more workers to cope with the extra visitors and spending on new attractions.
