Disney have shown their interest in establishing a children's adventure camp in the Manilva area following on from their contact with the Manilva Town Council, specifically the department for Promotion and Education, through the hosting of the 1st Manilva Disney Family Golf tournament last November.
With this in mind the town council are working on the acquisition of the land where the camp is proposed to be built. It consists of a 200,000 square metre plot which according to the Councillor for Tourism and Promotion, Francisco Miguel Alvarez, is being secured by the Town Council to be passed over to Disney at a later date.
Due to the expense of the camp as well as the land already purchased and the implication of Disney's involvement in the area, the Council is seeking the participation of the private sector so that neither the Town Hall nor Disney are exposed to a very high level of expense in respect of this project. The approval of the Junta de Andalucia has also been necessary and has provisionally been extended to the project earlier last month.
The intention is that this centre will provide sport and leisure as well as educational pursuits with the accent on fostering an understanding of nature and the environment and that all the parties involved in this project wish to provide a balance between leisure and activities of a formative nature. This will be the first Disney venture of this kind in Europe and will serve to put the Municipality firmly on the international map of activity tourism.
The councillor for Education and Promotion, Francisco Miguel Alvarez, prefers to be cautious at this time since there is no firm timetable as yet, but he stressed that the four fundamental elements that will make this a reality are firmly in place, namely: procurement of the land, the financing, planning permission, and the interest of Disney.
The commitment of Disney to the Manilva area has been further strengthened by the staging of the Manilva Disney Family Golf Tournament for the second year running thanks to an agreement signed at this years Madrid Tourism Fair (FITUR), and indeed Maria Forta, the Vice-president of Disney Iberia, has indicated that Disney's involvement in the Manilva area could go a lot further in the future, a point of view reinforced by Disney Iberia's Sporting Director, Javier Sansierra, who also expressed a desire to collaborate on a range of projects.
