Close to 5,000 ghoulish Goths will descend on Disneyland in November for the 10th Annual Bats Day - a macabre counter-culture celebration that turns the Anaheim theme park into the blackest place on Earth.

Bats Day in the Fun Park (popularly known as Goth Day) brings together the music and fashion subcultures of goth, industrial, black metal, death rock and psychobilly for a fun and frivolous day in the park. Normally held in August, the 2008 "Year of a Million Screams" event will be held Nov. 8-9 (before moving to May in 2009). The faithful travel from across the U.S. and as far away as Brazil, Germany and New Zealand for the unofficial event. (Follow Bats Day updates on Twitter).

Pale-skinned and dressed in black, the Goths offer a striking contrast to the typical teeming throng of theme park tourists. For the ladies, think Bride of Frankenstein meets Cruella De Vil. On the men's side, cross Herman Munster with Jack Skellington.

Pre-events on Saturday, Nov. 8, include a 60-vendor Black Market and a Ghoulish Gala cocktail party — both at the Doubletree Suites in Anaheim. The Goths take over Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure on Sunday, Nov. 9.
