Disney's original old-fashioned 'swimmin' hole' is where you just might bump into Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn cooling off after a run-in with Aunt Becky! Adjoining the rustic (by Disney standards) Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground the park actually sits on the shores of Bay Lake, the body of water in front of the Magic Kingdom® Park. A roped off section of the lake offers a great collection of slides, rope swings, rickety bridges, and a boom swing - these offer big fun rather than big thrills. Whoop 'N' Holler Hollow drops riders off into a heated swimming pool after a series of twisting turning body flumes, while White Water Rapids is a tube ride through a collection of gently descending slides and pools. Little ones are very well provided for as they splash around an area set aside just for them or play on the beach. Definitely a lazier kind of day with just enough action to keep everyone amused. went to river country on new years eve 07/08 It was very hard to get in there but we did (we had planed it out for months). The water park is still there, its gross. We climbed on top of the highest point of the highest slide and watched the fireworks from the magic kindgom across bay lake at midnight and it was unreal. Also a stones throw away from River Country is the abandoned Discovery Island...

All the work going on is because they are remvoing the water tank and using it at the new pool refurb at Fort Wilderness.

I cannot believe what I am seeing. I took a look at the link posted and I am shocked. I went to River Country in 1987 and had been there previous to that. What a shame....

These photos were taken from the lake on the little rental boats. the water was a little choppy so this was all I could get. They were taken in December 2007.
