Disney's original old-fashioned 'swimmin' hole' is where you just might bump into Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn cooling off after a run-in with Aunt Becky! Adjoining the rustic (by Disney standards) Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground the park actually sits on the shores of Bay Lake, the body of water in front of the Magic Kingdom® Park. A roped off section of the lake offers a great collection of slides, rope swings, rickety bridges, and a boom swing - these offer big fun rather than big thrills. Whoop 'N' Holler Hollow drops riders off into a heated swimming pool after a series of twisting turning body flumes, while White Water Rapids is a tube ride through a collection of gently descending slides and pools. Little ones are very well provided for as they splash around an area set aside just for them or play on the beach. Definitely a lazier kind of day with just enough action to keep everyone amused. River Country at Walt Disney World (dec. '07)

     Reported by: Yasmine / Cropperyas@comcast.net on: 6/19/2008

I was staying in the campground back in 2006, and my friends and I hopped the fence to get into River Country. We heard, and are convinced, that there is some sort of conspiracy going on that a few people became sick and died from a staph contamination. So, it was around 10 at night and we got in and looked around a bit. The pools were a quater way full and the water was so disgusting that it was practically black. The slides and everything else are still up, but there was obviously no running water. We were caught by the guards when we left, and we were honest with them that we were curious and wanted to see. They were nice and said dont do it again, and they were going to start to renovate it in a couple of years. It really broke my heart that the place is so run down and that I never got to go. It looks like Disney completely forgot it existed. I'm going to start working for Disney in January, and I am determined to get to the bottom of this. According to the research that I have done, they used water from Lake Buena Vista, and it costed too much money to filter it through.

It's Brooke again =] I was also in Disney in the 13th of March and me and my amigos attempted our annual River country bust lol we failed. the grounds are heavily guarded by Disney security, even in the middle of the night. Best of luck to whoever can get some good pics

I was just at Disney the weekend of May 3rd, 2008 and let me tell you something big is going in by river country. I had heard the rumors of a hotel called th El Dorado going in there and the old park was going to be exclusively for the guests staying there. They have cleared out a HUGE section of land back there with only one road leading in to it and it is guarded. I saw two cement mixers going through at about 11:00 at night. Something big is going in there.

It is closed. You can see pictures of it's current condition on Google Earth and MS Virtual Earth. It is only 2.2acres thats hardly room for a whole park. Access is also very difficult. Eithy\er from a launch at Magic Kingdom or through the Wilderness Campground and Resort. It would be nice to make a theme pool for the campers though
