On June 6, 2024, Disney Cruise Line will unveil its newest island paradise, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point! Joining the beloved Castaway Cay, this new Bahamian beauty promises an unforgettable one-day getaway packed with family fun and Caribbean charm.

The cruise industry has seen a phenomenal resurgence. According to the Cruise Lines International Association, global cruising surpassed pre-pandemic levels in 2023, reaching 107% of 2019’s figures. With projections of 34.7 million passengers for 2024, Disney Cruise Line is riding this wave of popularity, introducing four new ships and now, a stunning new private island destination.

Nestled on the southern shores of Eleuthera, Lookout Cay beautifully blends Bahamian culture with Disney magic. From dining and architecture to the colorful character costumes, guests will experience the essence of the Bahamas, especially at the Goombay Cultural Center, where local artisans and cultural activities await. As Lindsay Brookshier from Mickey Visit notes, “They are working to create a destination authentic to the Bahamas culture that showcases the area’s natural beauty.”

Dining at Lookout Cay is a treat with Bahamian delights such as Pigeon Peas & Rice, Plant-based Island Curry, and Bahamian-style Lime Marinated Grilled Snapper. Mickey, Minnie, and friends will don exclusive outfits by Bahamian designer Theodore Elyett, adding a vibrant local touch to your favorite Disney pals, as highlighted by Mikkel Woodruff of Sometimes Sailing.

Lookout Cay caters to all ages with character meet-and-greets, lively entertainment, and various water play areas like Rush Out Gush Out. Kids and adults alike can enjoy guided island tours, biking, or lounging on the serene beaches with rentable cabanas. For those seeking peace, the adult-exclusive beach to the north offers a stretch of tranquility complete with dining options and private cabanas.

Since its announcement in 2019, anticipation for Lookout Cay has soared among Disney Cruise fans. While the competition is stiff—Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay boasts a water park—Disney aims to exceed expectations with its signature touch of magic. Megan duBois, freelance journalist, believes, “Lighthouse Point will exceed expectations compared to Castaway Cay and even other cruise line private islands.”
