Pixar fans, get ready for a packed year! Pixar is bursting back into our lives with not one, but two dazzling animated features: Inside Out 2 and Elio. Yet, for those eagerly awaiting the return of Joy and her emotional friends on Disney+, the wait might be a bit longer than expected.

Can you believe it’s been nearly a decade since Inside Out first captured our hearts? This time around, in Inside Out 2, Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias/Kensington Tallman) navigates the wild rollercoaster of puberty, with old favorites like Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) reprising their roles. New characters such as Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, are set to stir up Riley’s emotional control center, joined by fresh emotions like Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos).

Mark your calendars for June 14, 2024—it’s the day Inside Out 2 hits theaters! Typically, Pixar delights in summer releases to draw families in, despite some mixed past results. Even if the box office isn’t as kind as hoped, Pixar movies usually gain a second wind through streaming on Disney+. So, when will Inside Out 2 make the leap to Disney+?

According to Bloomberg, Jim Morris, president of Pixar Animation, is optimistic about a robust theatrical run, giving the movie 100 days on the big screen. This would be a departure from the immediate Disney+ releases of Soul and Turning Red. Morris hopes this strategy will bring Pixar’s magic back to theaters.

If tradition holds, new Disney releases typically transition to Disney+ after about 90 days. Expect the streaming release of Inside Out 2 around mid to late September, possibly the longest wait ever for a Pixar streaming premiere. But this approach might just keep the anticipation bubbling!

With an Inside Out spinoff series also in the works, Pixar has a treasure trove of upcoming content for fans to look forward to. What do you think about the new emotions in Inside Out 2? Are you excited for its theatrical release, or will you wait for Disney+? Share your thoughts in the comments and keep the conversation going—after all, your opinions help shape the Disney magic!
