Disney Fans, We’ve Got News!

It seems the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has finally sailed its last voyage under Disney’s flag. After nearly two decades of worldwide box office success—amassing an impressive $4.5 billion—Disney has decided to put the struggling series to rest. Steered to fame by Johnny Depp’s unforgettable portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, the franchise’s adventures, however, fell into choppy waters following Depp’s highly publicized legal battles. Since then, attempts to reboot the series, with stars like Dwayne Johnson and Margot Robbie hovering as potential leads, have failed to come to fruition. There’s no sign of another Pirates film entering active development any time soon.

But what’s next for Disney? Enter Club 33, the exclusive and mysterious members-only dining club located in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, conveniently above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this hidden gem will be adapted into a family-friendly murder mystery series. The project is being developed by 21 Laps Entertainment, led by Shawn Levy, known for classics like Deadpool and Night at the Museum. The script is reportedly being penned by Darren Lemke, whose credits include Goosebumps and Shazam!

Imagine a tale reminiscent of the cult classic Clue (1985). The plot centers on a young aspiring detective who receives an invite to the secretive Club 33—a magical hideaway populated by historical icons where a mysterious murder occurs, and the young detective must solve it. With Levy’s knack for crafting lighthearted yet gripping narratives, this could very well be the next big Disney hit.

It’s intriguing to consider how Disney might turn the exclusive dining club experience into a blockbuster movie series. Club 33 has long been a symbol of Disney’s prestige and exclusivity, originally conceived as a space for Walt Disney to entertain company sponsors. Now, it seems poised to deliver new adventures to Disney fans worldwide in a completely novel format.

Your thoughts on this shift? Do you think Club 33 can continue the legacy that Pirates of the Caribbean started? Or do you have another Disneyland attraction in mind that deserves its moment on the silver screen?
