Disneyland’s “Fantasmic!” Nighttime Show: A New Era Begins

In an unexpected turn during one of the climactic battles between Mickey Mouse and Maleficent, the formidable dragon caught fire. This incident, which quickly went viral, put the show on an indefinite hiatus. Now, Disney is thrilled to announce that “Fantasmic!” will be returning, though not quite as you may remember it.
While the iconic dragon will no longer grace the stage, fear not! The essence of the show—highlighting the eternal battle between good and evil—remains intact. Maleficent won’t breathe fire, but she will return in a new, formidable form. Towering at 35 feet, this reimagined villainess will cast spells using advanced projection technology, lighting, and pyrotechnics. Mickey will fight back, shooting fireworks from his hands, and the river will still ignite in flames, preserving the dramatic impact of their showdown.
Tobi Longo from Disney Live Entertainment, who has been with “Fantasmic!” for nearly its entire run, reassures fans, saying, “Maleficent is still going to be spectacular. As much as we miss the dragon, the updated show will be a spectacular scene with enhanced pyrotechnics, impressive projections, and laser effects.”
This overhaul in production, while born out of precaution, ensures the safety of both performers and audiences alike. Advanced technological enhancements maintain the show’s magical atmosphere, offering a new kind of spectacle with cutting-edge projection mapping and lighting effects that are bound to astound.
